Arthur Sture Birger Svenson was born April 1, 1913 in Stockholm. He was a Swedish painter and illustrator.

Svenson was originally museum assistant at a number of Swedish institutions including the Stockholm City Museum, the County Museum Gävleborg, the Norrbotten Museum in Luleå and the Östersund City Museum. As an artist he was primarily self taught apart from time studying at Barths målarskola (Signe Barth's painting school).

He had his first solo exhibition at Färg and Form in 1952 and was one of the first Swedish cubists. The exhibition was followed by solo exhibitions in Norrköping, at the Konstnärshuset in Stockholm and the Lorensberg art gallery. Alongside Erik Jensen an dLars Stenstad he exhibited in Ronneby, and with Elsie Dahlberg-Sundborg in Vällingby. Together with Signe Barth and Holger Gardelius he formed a group that exhibited at a number of locations including galleries in Oskarshamn, Skellefteå, Kalix and Motala.

He was featured in a number of Sveriges allmänna konstförening (Swedish General Art Association)  exhibitions in Stockholm beginning in1941, and the Svenska konstnärernas förenings (Swedish Artists' Association) exhibitions during the 1950s and 1960s, and in the Stockholm Salon at Liljevalchs konsthall in 1962.

He was awarded a scholarship from the Svenska konstnärernas förenings and the Kungafonden (King's Fund) in 1958 and a state work scholarship in 1963 and a major state travel scholarship in 1964.

Svenson is best known for his still life works, landscapes, urban scenes and portraits, often with a strong abstraction. He designed some church items in silver and select public artworks include a piece in iron for Huvudsta Church. As illustrator he produced work for books including Estlander-Ander-Löfqvist Allmänna historien i berättelser and a variety of book illustrations for other writers. Examples of Svenson’s work is held in the collections of the at Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Solna Municipality collection.

He passed away on July 17, 1976.

A Vision of Pastoring That is Rare but Inspiring
Format: Kindle
No one has been more helpful to me from afar in church planting and pastoring than Eugene Peterson. His vision of pastoring is inspiring but increasingly rare in the church growth landscape of the Evangelical industrial complex. “The pastors of America have metamorphosed into a company of shopkeepers, and the shops they keep are churches. They are preoccupied with shopkeeper’s concerns—how to keep the customers happy, how to lure customers away from competitors down the street, how to package the goods so that the customers will lay out more money.” In this book, Peterson offers up an alternate view—a biblical view—of the work of the pastor: prayer, reading Scripture, and offering spiritual direction. This work is modest work—hard work—but it is the good work God has called us to.

Excellent
Format: Kindle
An excellent work on the essential shape of pastoral work. A very convicting and important read for those who work in ministry- prayer, scripture, and spiritual direction will never be demanded of us, but are non-negotiable in order to maintain our call.

A must read for any pastor or spiritual leader
Format: Paperback
This book is profoundly insightful and easy to read and understand. It is not heavily theological (and does not need to be). It is practical. I have purchased an additional copy to give my pastor for his birthday. If he has already read it, he can pass it on. EVERY pastor needs to read this and practice these tips, which many do not receive in seminary. THIS is the type of pastor I want and need (and my pastor does embody much of what Peterson describes). I think pastors should read this every year or two to reassess their progress toward keeping these goals always in mind and in practice as much as possible.

A still timely writing for all pastors
Format: Paperback
Although first published 25 years ago, Peterson addresses a matter that is still timely, the need for all pastors to commit themselves to prayer, reading scripture and spiritual direction. These, Peterson asserts, are an essential foundation for all other aspects of ministry. Peterson's premise, that many pastors have abdicated their primary calling to these three practices, is still very relavent to the current state of pastoral ministry. Its content will be useful for new and veteran pastors alike.
