Our F-111B Pictured On Right At Hughes Aviation

The F-111B program, though canceled by the Navy, was crucial in leading to the development of the F-14 Tomcat. It provided Grumman and Hughes Aviation with essential insights into sweep wing design, advanced radar systems such as the AN/AWG-9, and the use of AIM-54 Phoenix missile. These lessons were instrumental in the F-14's success, ensuring its effectiveness in naval aviation. Without the F-111B, the F-14 would not have reached the skies.

Our F-111B, BuNo 152714, was the first of two preproduction variants that boasted numerous enhancements over the initial five prototype F-111Bs, such as a lighter airframe, ejection capsule, revised nose for better visibility, refined Triple Plow II intakes, and was powered by upgraded TF30-P-12 engines that provided 8% more thrust in afterburner than the P-1 model. In total, seven F-111Bs were made, with ours being one of only two F-111Bs remaining in existence.

Loading our F-111B for the Trip to St. Louis

Subsequently, BuNo: 152714 was leased by Hughes Aviation from the Navy and served as a missile test platform for the AIM-54 Phoenix Missile and AN/AWG-9 radar prior to its retirement. Sadly, our airframe only accumulated 53 hours of flight time before it was flown from Hughes Aviation to the boneyard at Davis Monthan AFB on July 8th 1969. After being stored at Davis Monthan our F-111B was later transferred to McClellan AFB, CA, where it was dissected for parts to keep RAAF F-111 models flying.

Our F-111B did not end its journey there at McClellan being stripped for parts, as It found its way off the base and into private ownership, where we acquired it in 2024 from the most recent owner.

Truly great quality for tough chewers
I seldom leave reviews, but after years of reading endless reviews for different dpg toy products that claim to be "indestructible" but end up being no match for our sweet but genuinely TOUGH chewer pitbull, I never expect much... so was so pleasantly surprised, no, shocked, by the quality of this WoofBite toy. Please note these photos are after about 3 months of use (and you may notice our dog is laying in a sea of other decimated toys that lasted only days, if not hours). Again, not a big reviewer, and I know no two dogs are the same, but if our experience is any indication, we felt we needed to make this recommendation to other bully breed owners out there who, like us, are skeptical of anything out there claiming to be indestructible. While our dog gets so much joy and takes great pride in the art of destruction, the endless revolving door of buying her new toys translates to lots of money spent. It is nice to finally find a new option to add to our very limited list of brands we will buy for her. Good news is, she still really enjoys playing with this toy and she is enjoying the challenge. I can confidently say this has been a GREAT buy for our spoiled little pitbull and we will be scooping up more for her grandparents house, our summer camp, and some backups just in case these ever become unavailable. Thank you!

Flavor Name: Chicken, Size: Medium, Flavor Name: Chicken, Size: Medium
Chicken flavor mild kinda just taste spicy plastic but flaverfade quickly. It off-white more than white but it look mostly like picture otherwise. hard and durable but nit hurt teeth. Medium suggested for average human.

Tough Chewer Approved but Not a Forever Toy
Flavor Name: Original, Size: X-Large
I do like this toy for what it is meant to do. It is definitely built for strong chewers and holds up way better than softer toys that get destroyed in minutes. The texture keeps dogs interested and gives them something to really work on, which helps with boredom and can support dental cleaning through chewing. It is one of those “finally something that lasts a bit” kind of toys for heavy chewers. That said, it is not something you just toss in and forget about forever. Like most hard nylon toys, it will wear down over time and should be checked regularly for rough edges or changes in shape. Some dogs will also go through it faster depending on how intense their chewing style is, so replacement will eventually be needed. Girl, this is one of those “it survives the chaos better than most, but you still need to keep an eye on it” situations.
