Authentic ancient greek coin depicting the head of the Gorgon set in 22k gold and mounted on a sterling silver band. Size 7.5

The Gorgon face (Gorgoneion) on ancient coins served as an apotropaic symbol—a powerful, ancient amulet meant to ward off evil, protect the coin's owner from harm, and strike fear into enemies. Because the Gorgon's gaze was notoriously terrifying, ancient communities frequently stamped her image on items ranging from armor and shields to coinage and kilns.
