M996L / M996L-BE Motorized Electrified Breakaway Lever Trim

The M996L and M996L-BE motor-driven electrified breakaway lever trims offer advanced access control capabilities, combining remote locking/unlocking functionality with Von Duprin’s patented vandal-resistant design.

The integrated motor can be activated by a remote controller, enabling secure access management—particularly well-suited for stairwell control in high-rise buildings. When electrically unlocked, the lever operates normally. When locked, the lever becomes rigid to resist forced entry.

A unique breakaway feature activates when over 35 lbs. of torque is applied to the locked lever. In breakaway mode, the lever drops to a limp position, shielding internal components from damage while the trim remains securely locked. To restore normal operation, simply lift the lever back into place.

This trim is compatible with 12VDC or 24VDC power supplies and features a field-selectable DIP switch for Fail Safe (FS) or Fail Secure (FSE) operation—no additional configuration or tools required.

Key Bypass Options:

• M996L: Key operates as a night-latch mechanical override

• M996L-BE: No key override (blank escutcheon)

The M996 trim can be factory-ordered with a device, added to an existing 98/99 Series application, or retrofitted using a conversion kit for 996L/996L-BE or E996L/E996L-BE trims.
