With a flat surface, low-slung body, and horizontal emphasis, the Polder Sofa evokes the characteristics of Hella Jongerius' native Dutch low-lying flatlands.
Large asymmetrical seat cushions form an extremely comfortable seat surface flanked on both sides by an upholstered body. An integrated armrest on one end is counterbalanced by an adjoining platform on the other end that serves as storage space for books and magazines. The platform can also be moved in front of the sofa to serve as an ottoman. Hella Jongerius developed the textiles exclusively for Vitra to intensify the subtle interplay of colors and textures that characterize the Polder design.
