Explore Michael Hanchard's groundbreaking work, 'The Spectre of Race', an essential read for anyone interested in understanding how race and racism have shaped democracies throughout history. This compelling book offers an in-depth analysis of the intersection between racial discrimination and democratic principles, starting from classical antiquity to contemporary issues. In an age where right-wing nationalism and authoritarian populism are on the rise, Hanchard provides a critical examination of the historical roots of xenophobia and exclusionary practices within democratic systems. He reveals how the ideals of democracy have often excluded marginalized groups, emphasizing that these patterns are not recent phenomena but have persisted throughout history. The historian meticulously traces the influence of ancient Athens, through the Enlightenment, and into modern democracies like the United States, Britain, and France, illustrating their reliance on colonialism, slave labor, and racial regimes to sustain political and economic power. 'The Spectre of Race' challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about citizenship, privilege, and political inequality. Hanchard’s insights are invaluable for scholars, students, and activists eager to understand the complexities of democracy and the urgent need to address systemic racism. This trade binding edition published by Princeton University Press in 2018 is a must-have addition to your library for thoughtful discourse on race, politics, and society.Shipping Notes

Good
Color: Grey
Works as it should, but one of the brackets on the leg broke while setting up. Super glue is holding it in just fine.

Not good for putting away daily
Color: Grey
This product may work of you are doing a full install, but is terrible for putting up and taking down daily. I have only had it 2 months and it is falling apart and will not stand straight.

Privacy at ease!
Color: Black, Color: Black
This is exactly what we needed for our large house and bedroom sharing with the kids. People need privacy and this can be tucked away when it isn't being used. Perfect!

Easy to put together
Color: Black, Color: Black
I was pleasantly surprised by how well this room divider is designed. The engineering behind it is actually pretty thoughtful. All the pieces line up exactly where you expect them to, and the connectors make assembly almost foolproof. I had it put together in just a few minutes without any frustration or extra tools.
The fabric panels look clean and modern, and the whole unit is surprisingly lightweight. That makes it easy to move around if you want to reconfigure a room or create a quick private space. Even though it’s light, it still feels stable once it’s assembled.
Overall it’s a simple product done right: easy to assemble, easy to move, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I’d definitely buy it again.
