La Medida is a collaborative artisanal mezcal brand created by Julián Vidal Gómez Rodríguez, an unsung icon in Oaxacan mezcal for over 40 years. Julián s journey traces the evolution of modern mezcal - from early commercialization with industrial distillers, to helping pioneer artisanal mezcal alongside Ron Cooper at Del Maguey, to eventually co-founding his own tiny brand. Working alongside his son and renowned mezcaleros like Don Celso, Julián now showcases a diverse range of wild and cultivated single-varietal mezcals, allowing his life s work to be introduced to the US market. Twenty minutes past the famous clay-pot town of Santa Catarina Minas, you’ll find yourself in San Baltazar Chichicapam, home to independent mezcal producer Berta Vasquez. Berta wears her heart on her sleeve and openly shares her painful past with friends and strangers alike, making it easy to feel close to her and quickly form a close bond. At 64 years old, she has many stories of how she struggled as a woman in a man’s world, her outlook on life and on mezcal, and her vision for the future.
