Pre-publication proof copy. This autobiography had been for years in the making. "A lengthy and wildly idiosyncratic autobiography" (ODNB), it had to be shortened for the eventual publication in 1943. MacDiarmid at times is ranting against publishers, literary circles and writers. Page 172 had to be cancelled and changed in later issues.
