You may notice fine, crackle-like patterns called kannyu (crazing) on the surface of white or kohiki (slip-glazed) pottery. These patterns occur naturally during the firing process and create a delicate, one-of-a-kind expression in each piece.
Over time, subtle color changes may develop within the kannyu, allowing the vessel to gain depth and character as it is used — one of the unique pleasures of living with this type of pottery.
