Lithograph by Honoré Daumier entitled “Farce Dramatique” and dated 1841. Sur blanc impression. Portraying the fictional character Robert Macaire. The editors were Philipon and Aubert.

Some pencil markings on the back corner show Loys Delteil (L.D.) compiled the catalog, and the catalogue number of the print is 873.  It is the III/III state.

Below the image, the French to English translation is as follows:

Dramatic farce.

- Gently! Gently!? Do not raise the curtain, I am not playing -(the frightened Director rushing towards him). You must be joking, my dear Macaire, you must be joking? - Not at all, not at all! I will not play. - You will not play a similar trick to the theatre, to the author, to your poor colleagues? - Brrrrt! you are not honoring your engagements, so I have all the right to break mine, give me the leave! - I do not hold my engagements??

- No, you must pay me cash and you owe me!! - What? - You owe me 75 centimes.

Dimensions: Approximately 13 1/2" x 10 1/2"

Condition: VG. Some light creasing along the edges of the paper. Very little discoloration, if any.  Some more discoloration on the blank side. The lithograph image itself is in excellent condition considering its age.

About Daumier:

Honoré Daumier famously satirized France’s bourgeoisie and justice system, and masterfully exposed the misery of the masses through the emerging medium of lithography. Grotesque caricatures of government officials endeared him to the public, although one-too-many scathing renderings of King Louis-Philippe also landed him six months in prison. Thereafter, he stuck to the safer ground of deriding archetypal professionals such as doctors, professors, and especially lawyers and judges, whom he deemed cruel and pretentious. While his output of lithographs and illustrative drawings was most prodigious, Daumier also sculpted busts of members of parliament and painted religious and historical themes in the naturalist style, including many notable images of Don Quixote riding his horse. These late works were hardly recognized during his lifetime, yet are acclaimed today for their experimental techniques.

Love them!
Size: 3-Panel
It was funny to get together. Fun moments. My grandfather whom forgot to look down, stepped on it, slid, and did the splits.. there was a little smudge haha. But— its been a year and I still love them.

Great home office dividers!
Size: 3-Panel
Needed something to create a home office that would stand on an uneven basement floor. These are the perfect solution! No prying eyes and only took me an hour to put up both sets by myself, pretty easy. They are completely opaque.

Fine Simple Product, Works as Advertised
Size: 3-Panel
Performs as advertised, a simple upright divider. I use it to mark my "office" space when working from home. Assembly was straightforward and well documented. One person can do it, but a second person can be helpful when sliding the fabric divider pieces onto their poles. Part quality is fine for the price point. The only mild annoyance is that the upright poles can start getting loose from the metal feet, and need to be retightened occasionally (Allen wrench is included, keep it handy for retightening). It's fairly lightweight and easy to reposition, but the feet are heavy enough to keep it steady once placed. All in all, a good product. I was pleased enough to buy a second one when my son wanted something to block sunlight from behind his computer desk.

Wobbly and Poor Design
Size: 1-Panel
Update: nope! Not worth the money. My cat simply brushed against the divider, and it fell, knocking breakable things over. Not safe! It serves it's purpose, but...the screws were basically glued to the packaging. It took me longer to get the screws out of the packaging than it did to put it together. The assembly was easy. I am not mechanically inclined by any means, but the instructions, despite being very hard to read (I have over 40 eyes), were pretty simple. Structurally, it is very wobbly. I think they should have designed it with a middle rod to keep it more stable. I find that the attachments to the rods are wobbly and should have been screwed rather than popped into an attachment hole without reinforcement. That would have also made the room divider more stable. I have cats, but the material is easy to clean. I took a damp cloth to it, and it came right off. As far as see-through...I think it does a great job of masking theO other side of the room.. I just wish it was a little longer and closer to the floor stand. I like that it came with extra parts. It's just a very cheaply made item, and I don't think the price for the item reflects how cheaply it is made, how wobbly and unstable it is, or the poor design.
