An exceptional mid-20th century Maison Jansen attributed French Louis XVI style bureau plat or desk, circa 1930s. Having an ebonized semi-gloss lacquered finish with the original inset dark forest green leather writing surface with embossed gilding and writing slides that withdraw from either side to enlarge the surface when necessary, this beautiful large desk is a fine example of the high quality workmanship and style of the highly sought after Paris atelier. Featuring a single center drawer above kneehole opening flanked by a bank of two smaller drawers on each side, all with original gilt brass hardware, it's raised on straight tapered legs with gilt brass filets ending in gilt brass sabots. A finely crafted neoclassical writing table that works with traditional or modern decor and can float in any room.
