It has very pretty grain that is mostly straight to slightly curving. There are some eye catching black line spalting fronts visible in the blank, gently cross cutting the grain. Hackberry Bowl Blank Hk-441 3.5" x 6" x 7" 3.1 lbs. This is an irregularly shaped quarter-log of slightly spalted Texas Hackberry. It has very pretty grain that is mostly straight to slightly curving. There are some eye-catching black line spalting fronts visible in the blank, gently cross-cutting the grain. The colors are a cool gray-brown, with darker brown to black spalting features. This block has only part of its bark -- some has fallen off. You can turn a barkless natural edge bowl from this blank. Hackberry is not a very hard wood and tends to be fibrous, so sharp tools are most effective. Spalted, Hackberry can be a beautiful wood and is well suited for decorative turnings. However, I recommend that you do not choose Hackberry for any projects requiring heavy use (such as utility bowls, knife handles, game calls, etc.) unless you have plans on some type of "hardening" procedure. I also recommend that you take light cuts with sharp tools to avoid the tear-out problems common with spalted woods. This blank does have some minor drying cracks that you will likely want to fill or reinforce with CA glue prior to turning. This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed on end-grain surfaces with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying. It has been heat-treated to eliminate any gnawing critters. It was measured at ~25% MC in May 2022. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. About the Tree This Texas-grown Hackberry tree was removed from a Brangus cattle ranch in Pattison, Texas in 2021. Hackberry is a common fenceline tree in Texas, and it tends to disrupt the fence as it grows. This particular tree was removed by the rancher when it interfered with his fenceline. It was saved from the rancher's burn pile and carefully sealed and dried. It was milled in early 2022, and it is now ready for a trip to your shop for the next stage in its life. Worth every penny
Format: Paperback
This book is in a class of its own compared to other security and pentesting books. I would highly recommend to anyone interested or currently working in network security. Instead of simply explaining how to use common pentesting tools, Wil Allsopp explains how they work and how to write your own custom tools from the ground up. Even if you do not have a programming background, it is worth understanding how an attacker can infiltrate a "secure" network without being detected.

They aren't using crappy malware, so if you're InfoSec program is built ...

Bought yesterday, can't put it down -- will reread it again this week. This book is a solid gold mine on pulling our InfoSec heads out of our InfoSec tailpipes and focusing on the modes and methods our real adversaries are using. (Pro Tip: They aren't using crappy malware, so if you're InfoSec program is built on stopping malware you should be concerned.)
We all hear about the social engineering component to an effective attack, but to see it so effectively used over and over again with Wil's case studies really drives home the point.
If you're involved in either the management of an Information Security program, or involved in the more tactical parts of penetration testing, I'd put this on your short list of books to read this year. I hope he does a follow-up.

A well-written and updated book that covers Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) in detail.
Format: Paperback
The author truly knows his art. As a penetration tester, I feel that many books just re-hash the same old material and tools. This book covers much more than just pentesting, it covers APT and gives realistic scenarios and tools that actually work. This is a book for everyone who works offensive and defensive security because it covers how real malicious actors approach companies and steal their critical data.

Excellent Red Team InfoSec Book
Format: Paperback
One of the better books on the market on real penetration testing and creating advanced persistent threats. Great coding examples/strategies and how to think outside the box when it comes to attacking systems/companies. Elite guys like Wil Allsopp create their own custom tools all the time for real penetration testing. This is what nation-state actors are doing. Highly recommended.
