The locking centre 45mm lozenge and curved mouthpiece of the Elliptical Lock Up Snaffle from Bombers Bits are designed to remove the nutcracker action of a conventional snaffles, so this bit will bear less pressure on the bars of the horse's mouth. The mouthpiece cannot bend beyond a certain point, so it remains in a curve in the mouth. It is designed to help the horse to mouth the bit and comfortably relax his jaw.

Consequently, a horse using his tongue as a means of pushing against the bit and therefore taking control, will draw back and tuck his chin in, coming back to a better point of control.

The blue sweet iron mouthpiece oxidises easily, warming up and creating a sweet taste. This encourages the horse to salivate and gently mouth the bit, accepting and softening to the contact.

The eggbutt cheekpiece prevents pinching of the lips and gives a slightly more solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower and also introduces some poll pressure.
