The Yamaha L Series LL16RD is built around a non-cutaway round-shoulder dreadnought body that emphasizes projection and tonal balance across the full frequency spectrum. The top is crafted from Engelmann spruce treated with Yamaha’s A.R.E. process, a thermal and humidity-controlled method that alters the wood’s molecular structure to approximate the acoustic response of a well-aged instrument. The result is a seasoned, broken-in tone straight out of the case. Paired with rosewood back and sides, the LL16RD produces a rich low end, strong fundamentals, and crisp treble response, while the modified non-scalloped bracing provides structural integrity and dynamic articulation.
The neck uses a five-ply mahogany and rosewood laminate with a matte finish that complements the gloss body visually and texturally. Its full 25.5625" scale length and 1.75" nut width support both fingerstyle and flatpicking techniques, while the 15.75" fingerboard radius on the rosewood board allows smooth position shifts and consistent fretting comfort. Gold die-cast TM29G tuners keep everything locked in tune.
Onboard, the SRT Zero Impact pickup system captures the guitar’s natural tone transparently, preserving its dynamics and balance for live use without coloring the unplugged character. There are no onboard controls, keeping the topwood clean and resonant while relying on external preamps or mixer EQ for adjustments. An ebony bridge, understated gloss natural finish, and hardshell case round out the instrument’s build.
