This is an original Egyptian contract Remington Rolling Block rifle, manufactured by E. Remington and Sons in the mid-1860s and continuing into the early 20th century. It was designed to withstand the increased pressure of new smokeless powders, which became popular in the late 1880s. Approximately 300,000 were produced, with 100,000 diverted to France for the Franco-Prussian War. While some of these rifles have been re-imported over the past 30 years, finding them in good condition is a challenge. I see no Egyptian markings on this rifle.

The rifle lacks its original cleaning rod, but unlike most, it still displays some discernible Remington patent markings (can be pulled up by a professional - but we don't touch the weapon, except some wax put on the tip of the barrel to avoid potential rusting down the barrel since it has been in our store on display for many many years - sold as we acquired it) on the receiver tang. The metalwork boasts a beautiful gray patina (although it looks a different color in my pictures from the lighting), with visible wear that is typical for a rifle used in long service.

The stocks are quite dark, showing years of use in service. There are dents, chunks missing, and significant wear, giving the gun a lovely aged look. Both sling swivels are also present, and look to be original, with much wear on the front fitting. The rear sight is fully intact and functional, another rarity, though it has no markings on it anymore. The bore on this gun has not been cleaned. However, a small amount of wax was placed just inside the rifle to avoid any possible rusting due to the rifle being displayed in our surplus store for many many years. Our store is cooled via swamp cooler and damage to the firearms on display has been kept to a minimum.

This collector item was in a personal collection for over 40+ years before the gentleman brought it to my father to purchase who had to liquidate it for health reasons.  My father in turn has owned it for another 15+ years and proudly displayed the items in his surplus store.

Cute for small dogs, but my Malinois made it extinct in minutes
I ordered this plush toy for my Belgian Malinois, and I went into it fully aware of what I was doing. With my dog, “plush toy” basically translates to “short lived prey simulation,” and I’m honestly okay with that because it helps her satisfy that prey drive in a safe, controlled way. She is always under direct supervision when she has toys like this. The toy is cute, and the concept is fun. The wings and textures are engaging, and I can see how the squeaker/crinkle would be exciting for a small or medium dog that actually plays with plush toys instead of immediately performing surgery on them. For my dog though, it was not durable in any sense of the word. Within about 30 seconds, she had both wings ripped off. Within five minutes, the entire thing was shredded and gutted. It did its job as an enrichment “destroy me” toy, but if you’re buying this expecting it to last, it won’t hold up to a strong chewer. It’s also not quite as plush and soft as it looks in the listing photos. It’s more on the lightweight side, which might be fine for smaller dogs, but it felt a bit less cozy than I expected. I’m giving it four stars because it is a cute toy and would probably be a fun, engaging option for the intended size range, especially dogs that aren’t power shredders. For large breeds or dogs with intense chewing styles (or Belgian Malinois energy), just know it’s going to be a very brief relationship.
