Joy Pitjara was born in Boundary Bore, Utopia, the daughter of the well-known artist Glory Ngarla (deceased) and the sister of the renowned Anna Price Petyarre. Growing up within a family of esteemed artists, Joy acquired early skills in batik from her mother, subsequently transitioning to painting on canvas using acrylic paints. Joy portrays narratives such as the Bush Tobacco Plant and Yam Dreamings through an intricate dotting technique and subtle colour shades.

The focal point of Joy's artistic endeavours often revolves around depicting leaves Indigenous to her homeland, utilized for diverse medicinal purposes. Notably, she recurrently features "Bush Yam Leaves" and "Bush Medicine," eloquently capturing the flowing representations of the leaves. In alignment with the customary style of Utopian artists, Joy's work exudes an appreciation for the utilization of colour.

About the Story

The ceremonial reverence for the Bush Yam is prevalent in Central Australia, signifying the cultural importance attributed to this indigenous food and acknowledging its ceremonial significance. In large congregations for ceremonial and legal proceedings in the desert regions, sufficient sustenance is a pivotal concern.

The Dreaming or Jukurrpa Stories concerning the Bush Yam often underscore its role in fostering abundance and emphasize the traditional responsibility of equitably sharing food resources. This is illustrated in the Warlpiri Creation narrative originating from the Yumurrpa site, situated north of Yuendumu on the fringes of the Tanami Desert in Central Australia. Here, ancestral contention transpired between the custodians of the Yarla (large Bush Yam) and the smaller Wapirti white Yam lineage. In commemorating this ancestral conflict, the custodians uphold the ceremonies, thereby encapsulating the ancestral teachings of equitable food distribution as a deterrent against societal discord.

Artistic representations often portray the sprawling vine-like foliage of the Yarla plant with an intricate network originating from the tuberous roots of the Bush Yam, using hues reflecting the different seasonal transitions, including yellows, oranges, reds, greens, and an array of other vibrant and contrasting colours. Furthermore, the narrative finds representation in the Utopia Homelands of Central Australia, where artists such as Emily Kngwarreye, Galya Pwerle, and Gloria Petyarre, among others, artistically showcase the ceremonial ties of the Anmatyerre people to the Yam as a source of sustenance in the desert. Their depictions of the Yam Seed and Yam Flower encapsulate the themes of fertility intrinsic to the Yam plant, reinforcing the ceremonial representation of celebrating and fostering the abundance of the Yam.

Dogs give the Y a 10 out of 10!
It seems like all dogs love these Y bones. It is not messy and its a dog favorite. Paid for many Y bones in the store but it is a little more going to a pet store. So tried online. Didn't disappoint! Cant have enough in my pantry. 😀

My Dog Loves It, But Be Careful
My dog absolutely loves the Benebone Wishbone Chew Toy—he gets so excited every time I bring it out. It’s clearly made for aggressive chewers and is very durable, but he often ends up hurting his teeth while chewing on it. I wish it were a bit gentler on his mouth. Great for keeping dogs entertained, just watch out if your pup has sensitive teeth.

My dogs LOVE these over the leading brand!
My dogs LOVE these chew bones! They will chew on these things for 30 minutes straight. They will dig them out from the dog basket, or whine at the door if they left it outside. I ended up having to get all 4 of my dogs each their own it was so popular. The white bone in the picture is the from the leading brand and you can see which one they go for, lol. They've had these bones for 6 weeks now and chew on them daily, and multiple times throughout the day. If your dog is a chewed or puppy, definitely give these a try!

🐾Ridiculous aggressive chewer🐶
Style: Stick, Flavor Name: REAL Bacon, Size: Medium
Sooooo happy I finally found something that my moms pup couldn't chew up! Not going to like its been very tough. She has now for at least a week (sorry days pushing together 🤪) Let's just say the pup is a chihuahua mix that LOVES to chew. Emphasis on the chewing youre lucky if a toy lasts more than a day let alone a week 🤣 This is so durable I may not need one for her for a while but this will come HIGHLY recommended for ridiculously aggressive chewers. Suitable for ang size dog just make sure you go one size bigger then you think you should. Quick easy chew toys but definitely has some weight to it.

Stands Up to Strong Chewers Without Splintering
Style: Stick, Flavor Name: REAL Maple Wood, Size: Giant
We got the Benebone Maplestick in Giant size for our large, aggressive chewer, and it has held up remarkably well compared to other chew toys we’ve tried. The real maplewood core mixed with durable nylon offers a satisfying chew texture; it feels substantial without being brittle, and our dog goes after it consistently during free play or after meals. It’s noticeably tougher than many rubber or soft plastic toys, yet it doesn’t splinter into sharp pieces, which gives me confidence in regular use. The shape and size are also well suited for bigger mouths, and the way it’s angled makes it easy for a strong chewer to get a grip and work away at the surface. Cleaning is simple, and over weeks of use we’ve seen only normal wear rather than shredding or chunks missing. As someone who’s tried multiple toys claiming “for aggressive chewers,” this one genuinely lives up to its reputation in my experience. While no chew toy lasts forever with a powerhouse chewer, this one’s longevity feels above average without resorting to metal or stone alternatives that can be too hard on teeth. For everyday chewing and play, it strikes a solid balance of durability and engagement.
