Discover the intricate relationship between architecture and the human psyche in 'Dwelling in the Text,' a pivotal exploration of American homes and their significance. Author Marilyn Chandler takes you on an insightful journey through literary 'house tours' in iconic American novels, from Thoreau's 'Walden' to Morrison's 'Beloved.' This book examines how the concept of a house transcends mere bricks and mortar, delving into the deeper psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of domestic spaces.

Unravel the symbolism of the house in American mythology as Chandler adeptly traces the evolution of our perceptions, exploring themes of rootedness versus openness. The book provides a compelling analysis of how American architecture reflects individual psychology, national aspirations, and the ambivalence of material desires. With rich insights into rituals of building, decorating, and inhabiting, 'Dwelling in the Text' enriches our understanding of homes within the broader American narrative.

Ideal for students, literary scholars, and architecture enthusiasts, this scholarly work not only addresses housing challenges but offers profound reflections on the attitudes and assumptions embedded in our homes. Reissued as part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, this text draws from decades of peer-reviewed scholarship, making it a valuable addition to your collection of architectural and literary studies. Experience the nuanced connections between:text, family, and home in 'Dwelling in the Text'—where every chapter is a doorway to understanding our cultural identity.

Great size, not great traction
Color: Smoky Pink
Absolutely love the size and thickness of the mat. Perfect for Pilates. The traction is not as good as advertised. Definitely still slippery for certain positions. But overall good price for the money.

Great size and thickness! Perfect combination!
After using this product for a year I absolutely love it. I love the extra size. I am 6'1" It is a nice thickness without compromising support and balance like some that have too much cushion. It has been durable and the carrying strap has been easy to use. It is a nice color.

Comfortable yoga mat
Color: Blue Mist, Style: 1/2 inch, Color: Blue Mist, Style: 1/2 inch
I was due for a new yoga mat as I practice every day anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Over the years I've taken to liking the 1/2" thick mats with the grip lines. They're just easier on the joints (two acl reconstructions and a spinal fusion from T2 to L2) and a plate in my wrist. This mat is great. I like the design and color, the thickness is perfect, no smell AT ALL which is both rare and awesome. I used it today and found it comfortable. I also like the 72" length because I'm about 5'9 so I'm not hanging off the mat. I've been practicing yoga for over 15 years and have my CYT 200 even though I don't teach, and I would highly recommend this mat.
