The aluminum heat shield spans the entire length of the front clip, taking advantage of the huge stock grill. This design protects the intake from hot engine bay air while effectively channeling high-pressure air through the grill directly to the engine.

The unique growl of the VR6 engine was an instant enthusiast favorite after the debut in 1991. Sadly, the modern stock airboxes are a plastic compromise resulting in flow-killing restrictions and entirely muted engine notes.
