Tanya Nangala Price was born in 1972 at Aileron in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory. Her language group is Anmatyerre. Utopia is located approximately 300km northeast of Alice Springs and is home to many well-established artists.
Tanya comes from the most famous painting family based in Utopia. Her relatives include artists such as Minnie Pwerle and Gloria Petyarre. Tanya learned to paint by watching her Aunt, senior artist Gracie Morton Pwerle.
About the Painting
Tanya paints the bush tucker and flowers found in the harsh desert lands of Utopia. Annual rainfall is very low; however, the country bursts into life after the winter rains with colourful flowers and bush foods. The women still go out to collect these special plants, seeds and fruits, which can be used for many things, including as a food source rich with vitamins and bush medicine.
