The hand-painted enamel is masterfully built with layers to create a naturalistic depth in the purple pigment, with highly articulate detailing around the central old mine cut diamond that fully brings the piece to life. Still in beautiful condition with some areas of fading around the edges, as we would expect for a piece over 120 years old that has been beloved and cared for by multiple generations.  

The purple pansy has long been seen as a symbol of love across many cultures and times. The name pansy comes from the French word pensée, meaning thought. Historians have long been fascinated by floriography, or the secret language of flowers as used to communicate meaning and messages without words in the Victorian era. While pansies symbolized love and memory and communicated, "think of me," a geranium meant "lost hope," and pea flowers meant "meet me by moonlight".

For us, this piece is about every kind of unconditional love, especially the kind we all need to have for ourselves.
