This is the only piece we have come across that seamlessly integrates the Art Nouveau movement's narrative love of nature into the detailed and usually abstract precision enamel work of Tailles dpargne. And the owl is just so darn charming. What a joy to see art

Yes, this gorgeous American Tailles d’Épargne 14k slide chain circa 1910 is an owl! And not just any owl, but one distinctly found on the East coast of North America, the Great Horned Owl. 

This is the only piece we have come across that seamlessly integrates the Art Nouveau movement's narrative love of nature into the detailed--and usually abstract--precision enamel work of Tailles d’Épargne.

And the owl is just so darn charming. What a joy to see art history that is technically exceptional while holding space for a little humor, too. One pink pearl eye and one blue, a slightly cocked glance--wisdom tempered by something else a little irreverent.
