London to Bath, 3 days of gravel travel adventure

Dates: 4th - 6th May

Yup, 3 days of great gravel riding, taking in some of the best sections of gravel riding I’ve ever found in the country, yeah, it’s that good! Cross heathlands, discover old Drovers roads, view a couple of pretty stunning cathedrals, visit Stonehenge and loads of other Neolithic stuff while crossing the Salisbury Plain.  For the adult kids, there’s a long old tunnel that drops us bang in the centre of Bath.

We’ll ride approximately 60 miles a day, at a sustainable pace with stops for a relaxed lunch at pubs en route and staying in local small hotels each evening.

The ride is guided and accompanied by map guru legend Charlie and supported by his team of magic elves who will not only carry your baggage between hotels but can be summoned during the day should it all go wrong!

Route distance: 253km/157 miles

Itinerary

Day 1 London to Alton

Distance: 100 km | 62 miles

Highlights: 10 km glide into Wey Valley and free swimming in the River Wey.

Meet at Brixton for coffee and croissants, a final chance to do some fettling and dump your bags before setting off, park hopping out of London.

There’s a coffee stop in Leatherhead to prepare for the climb up to Ranmore Common, before the glorious, and I mean it, it's probably the best bit of gravel in the South East, descent into the Wey Valley.

A chance for a free swim in the River Wey before lunch after which, it's a pleasant afternoon ride along traditional bridleways into Alton.

Day 2 Alton to Salisbury

Distance: 70 km | 43 miles

Highlights: Oxdrover Way, Winchester Cathedral, Old Sarum and Salisbury.

It’s a short riding day because there’s a lot to see, the morning’s ride along the ancient Ox Drovers Road into Winchester where we’ll stop for coffee and mooch. Lunch in the Test Valley, before riding along the Roman roads to Old Sarum with time to explore this fascinating  Iron Age Fort/abandoned Norman town, before heading down to Salisbury.

 Day 3 Salisbury to Bath

Distance: 83 km |  53 miles

Highlights: Stonehenge, Salisbury Plain, Dundas Aquaduct and Coombe Hill Tunnel

Couldn’t get a finer gateway onto Salisbury Plain than Stonehenge, always worth a look before spending the rest of the morning riding across the open chalky downland.  After lunch, we join the Kennet and Avon canal towards Bath riding across the magnificent Dundas Aquaduct before delving underground and into Bath.

    Great Espresso Machine for Beginners
    Color: Silver
Update: Milk teamer doesn't deliver the foam like at the first couple of days, and the espresso doesn't come with the crema any longer. Somehow the pressure goes above the espresso range, and I tried to decrease the amount of coffee, and no results. I am so disappointed. First thing that impressed me about this little espresso machine is how easy it to use. You can make a double espresso shot in literarily 1 minute. Second thing is size, the machine is pretty compact that you can place it anywhere in the kitchen without worrying about taking too much space. Also, it heats up quick, and the options are straightforward. The water tank is just the perfect size, which is excellent for me, and I don't have to refill water constantly. Performance-wise, it feels solid and does an excellent job making shots like what you'd expect in a cafe. The water pressure is just right, delivering this espresso shot without the extra acidity. The flowmeter regulates the water evenly which is great in making that creamy espresso. Something else to note, it's small and also quiet, which is big to me since the last one was making unnecessary noise every time I make a shot. Now, the milk frother is pretty decent, and create that foam you'd love to see in your cappuccino and latte. Overall, this is a pretty decent choice, and feels durable.

Beautiful, functional, and perfect for a stylish coffee bar
I absolutely love this scale. As someone who cares about both function and aesthetics, this was exactly what I was looking for. It’s refreshing to find a high-quality kitchen tool that doesn’t force you to sacrifice the look of your space. The white and gold design is stunning and fits perfectly on my coffee bar without looking bulky or industrial. Functionally, it works flawlessly. I primarily use it to measure my coffee beans, but I’ve also used it for other items, and it’s consistently accurate and easy to use. The size is perfect — compact enough to keep out on the counter without taking up space, yet large enough to be practical and stable. The display is clear, the buttons are responsive, and the overall build feels solid and well made. I also appreciate how intuitive it is to use — no learning curve at all. If you’re someone who loves a beautiful, cohesive kitchen setup but still wants reliable, quality tools, I would highly recommend this scale. It’s small, stunning, and performs exactly as it should.

    Great scale, an excellent buy
    Color: Black&Silver
Is it possible to fall in love with a scale? I unboxed this one and, without reading any directions, put an empty 1/4 cup on it, turned the scale on, filled the 1/4 cup with coffee beans till I had the desired 17 or so grams, and turned the scale off. Easy-peasy! It’s small but sensitive, able to tell when a single bean has been added or removed. I almost didn’t get it because of the charging issue, but at least it tells you what the current charge is, and the way I use it I believe it will last several months without recharging. I’m so glad I bought this scale!

Simple yet easy must have for discerning coffee drinkers
    Color: Black&Silver
I seem to never get the same results from my coffee machine and it varied even more with the new brand that we just bought. I now have to make more adjustments with the water temperature, based on age, type of beans, etc. That affects the amount of ground dispensed and consistency in the shot until I get a new batch dialed in. So the only way to regulate these changes is to weigh both the beans and water. Using this little scale has made things easier, less frustrating and more predictable. What’s awesome is that it will automatically begin the timer with the first drop and stop when the pressure remains constant. Simple yet easy and super convenient. If you are looking for a great little digital scale this should do the trick. Highly recommended.
