ABOUT THE ARTFORM 
Hase chitra  or hase chittara  is a folk art practiced by the Deewaru community in Shimoga, Sagara and Uttara kannada district of Karnataka.

The walls are colored with red mud found abundantly in the region and designs are drawn in white paint derived from rice paste and white mud.

The lines and patterns on these paintings, each symbolize an aspect of nature or depict the religious, social, agricultural practices of the community. The drawing has been seen on the walls, doorframes, and doorsteps in the villages of malenadu region.

It was predominantly practiced by the women folk of the community.

WHAT WE LEARN
Intensive workshops are aimed at providing a wholesome understanding of an artform. In the beginning, we will start from basic patterns and motifs, and move towards knowing about different chittaras made for different festivals or occassions like marriage.

We look to create 2-3 different artworks in the course of the 10 day workshop.

Also, we will learn about the history, cultural relevance and tradition of these paintings. Each chittara is accompanied by a song so music and art is interwoven in this tradition. We will also talk about this tradition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Shri Ishwara Naik is credited for single handedly reviving the art of Chittara paintings with his consistent efforts through last two decades. Not only the visual form, but he has also preserved the folk songs associated with daily activities and festivities.
He was given the National award for Craftsmen for his efforts in 1998.

Traditional colors are teracotta red, yellow, black and white

Extremely comfortable with slight roomy fit

These are easily the most comfortable flip flops I have ever owned. From the moment I put them on, there was no break in period at all. They felt soft, supportive, and ready for all day wear right out of the box. The cushioning is excellent without feeling too soft, and they have a nice stable feel when walking. They are lightweight and clearly made with quality materials, making them great for everyday use or around water. One thing to note is that they run a little on the larger side, so if you are between sizes, you may want to consider sizing down for a better fit. Overall, these are a great combination of comfort, durability, and function. I would absolutely recommend them, especially if comfort is your top priority. (Excuse the teeth marks- my dog unfortunately got ahold of them before I snapped the photo- they are PERFECT out of the box)

Columbia always makes great stuff

Even with my flat feet these offer a lot of padding which makes these extremely comfortable. They increase my height about an inch haha. These are great for walking around the beach or just going for walks. The tread on the bottom of these make walking up hills where the surfaces are not completely even extremely easy and very grippy. Time will tell how durable these are, but so far they're holding up very well.
