A 12-inch hand-carved natural stone marble chess set — warm matte travertine border and light squares against polished oceanic marble dark squares with fossil inclusions, 32 Staunton-form stone pieces, 2 extra queens, and a storage box — weighing 7.1 pounds total with free US shipping. This is the travertine-bordered compact version of the warm organic Travertine+Oceanic combination — a cool chess set where the warm beige-cream travertine border creates a natural stone board presence at room level while polished oceanic fossil marble delivers warm grey-brown organic contrast at playing height, in the accessible 12-inch format.

What This Travertine and Oceanic Marble Chess Set Includes

    • 12-inch travertine-bordered board with polished oceanic marble dark squares — 11.81" × 11.81" × 0.04" exact, 7.1 lbs total: The board is a solid stone slab with a warm beige-cream travertine border surround and alternating travertine and oceanic marble inlaid squares across the full 12-inch playing surface. The travertine border and light squares have the characteristic heavy natural pitting of genuine sedimentary travertine — warm beige-cream matte surface with pronounced natural voids visible across the full border and all light squares, confirmed from the product image. The oceanic marble dark squares are polished — warm grey-brown with fossil inclusions and organic patterns that differ from square to square across the board. The board reads as a warm natural stone object from across a room — the travertine border dominates the board silhouette — while delivering the warm organic contrast between matte travertine and polished fossil oceanic marble at playing height. The board base has an attached felt pad protecting any table surface. At 7.1 pounds the compact 12-inch set is the most portable natural stone Travertine+Oceanic chess set in the Speshstones catalog — 3.4 pounds lighter than the 15-inch Travertine+Oceanic Tournament Set at the same warm organic color combination
    • 32 hand-carved Staunton-form stone pieces — 16 oceanic marble + 16 travertine, all with felt base pads: Every piece is individually hand-carved from genuine natural stone in classic Staunton form. The dark side is polished oceanic marble — warm grey-brown with fossil inclusions and organic patterns visible across every carved piece surface, confirmed from the piece closeup in the product image where the King, Rook, and Knight all show distinct warm grey-brown fossil character. The light side is natural travertine — warm beige-cream with heavy pronounced surface pitting visible across every carved piece surface. Both materials sit within the warm earth-tone palette — the contrast between sides is a material contrast (matte pitted travertine versus polished fossil oceanic) rather than a stark tonal contrast, since both materials are warm earth tones. Every piece has an attached felt base pad protecting the board surface during play
    • 2 extra queens — 1 oceanic marble + 1 travertine: Both extra queens are full-size hand-carved stone pieces at the full 2.5-inch Queen height — one polished oceanic marble queen and one warm matte travertine queen. Both match the playing queens exactly in height, form, and material and store with the full set in the included storage box
    • Storage box — all 34 pieces protected: The complete set stores in a dedicated storage box that holds all 34 pieces — 32 playing pieces plus both extra queens — securely between play and display sessions, preventing piece-to-piece contact which is the primary cause of surface chipping in natural stone chess sets without dedicated protective storage. The storage box is included in the purchase price
    • Compact 12-inch format at 7.1 pounds — the most accessible Travertine+Oceanic chess set in the Speshstones catalog: At 12 × 12 inches and 7.1 pounds this is the compact format described by the official Speshstones size guide as perfect for casual games or limited space. At $125.89 this is $30 less than the 15-inch Travertine+Oceanic Tournament Set — the most accessible entry point to the warm travertine-bordered oceanic marble combination in the Speshstones catalog

Why the Travertine Border Makes This Board Different From the Oceanic-Bordered 12-Inch Version

The Speshstones 12-inch chess catalog includes two products that share the same two stone materials — travertine and oceanic marble. The Oceanic+Travertine 12-inch set has an oceanic marble border — the board reads as a warm grey-brown fossil stone object at room level where the fossil-inclusion oceanic marble dominates the board silhouette. This Travertine+Oceanic 12-inch set has a travertine border — the board reads as a warm beige-cream natural stone object at room level where the matte pitted travertine dominates the board silhouette.

At playing height the contrast experience is identical between both products — polished oceanic fossil marble dark squares against matte travertine light squares, with oceanic marble pieces on one side and travertine pieces on the other. The border difference only affects how the board presents as a room object between games. For buyers whose home has warm beige-cream tones — light wood furniture, linen textiles, warm stone surfaces, or organic modern styling — this travertine-bordered format coordinates naturally with the room palette. For buyers whose home has warmer grey-brown tones — concrete, slate, or warm grey stone — the Oceanic+Travertine format with its oceanic border may coordinate better.

As a unique chess set the Travertine+Oceanic compact format occupies a specific position in the 12-inch catalog — the warm beige-cream framed board with organic fossil marble accent squares at the most accessible price point. Both materials are warm earth tones, creating the most harmoniously organic board in the 12-inch catalog where no element introduces a cool or dramatically contrasting tone.

    Materials & Craftsmanship

This handmade chess set is carved from two genuine natural warm earth-tone stones — natural travertine and oceanic marble — whose geological origins differ significantly while both operating within the warm earth-tone palette. Natural travertine is a sedimentary limestone formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from natural spring water — creating the characteristic warm beige-cream color and heavy natural pitting confirmed across the board border, travertine light squares, and all 16 travertine pieces in the product image. Oceanic marble is a metamorphic limestone with characteristic warm grey-brown color and fossil inclusions — organic patterns from marine sedimentary material incorporated into the stone during geological formation — creating a polished surface with visible fossil outlines and warm grey-brown toning that differs from piece to piece and square to square. The board combines both stones — matte travertine border and light squares against polished oceanic marble dark squares — in a single solid inlaid stone slab. Every piece is individually hand-carved from genuine natural stone in classic Staunton form. No paint. No dye. No coating. The warm beige-cream of the travertine pieces comes from genuine sedimentary limestone material. The warm grey-brown fossil character of the oceanic pieces comes from genuine metamorphic limestone with natural fossil inclusions. Natural variation between pieces confirms genuine stone — the pitting distribution on each travertine piece and the fossil inclusion pattern on each oceanic piece differ because each piece is carved from a separate block of natural stone.

How to Care for Your Travertine and Oceanic Marble Chess Set

This natural stone chess set requires minimal care between play and display sessions. For the board, wipe the full 12-inch playing surface including the travertine border with a soft damp cloth after each session to remove fingerprint oils and dust from both the matte travertine areas and the polished oceanic marble dark squares. The polished oceanic marble squares show fingerprint marks and dust against the warm grey-brown fossil surface — a quick damp cloth wipe after each session maintains the fossil marble surface quality. The travertine border and light squares have heavy natural pitting that collects fine dust during display periods — use a soft brush with mild pH-neutral soap during weekly deeper cleaning to clear any debris from within the pitting on both the board travertine areas and all 16 travertine pieces. For the oceanic marble pieces, wipe each piece with a soft damp cloth — the polished surface cleans in one pass but the fossil inclusion areas may collect fine dust during extended display periods. For the travertine pieces, use a soft brush with mild pH-neutral soap to clear the pronounced natural surface pitting. Do not use vinegar, lemon juice, citrus-based sprays, or bleach on any marble or travertine surface — these permanently etch and dull both the polished oceanic marble and the matte travertine on both board and pieces. Always lift pieces during play — never slide stone pieces across the board surface. Store all 34 pieces in the included storage box between sessions. Apply a food-safe penetrating stone sealer to all surfaces once or twice a year to maintain both stone finishes long-term.

Great scale that needs some improvements to be perfect
    Color: White, Color: White
Very accurate scale, looks good in white, timer works nicely and I do like the concept of the ratio conversion. Shown in photos with 0 measurement drift over time, even without the silicone mat. To make this the best scale in the price range, I would change: - The auto timer function. Timing currently stops if you pick up the brew to swirl; you must completely restart the process if you do happen to pick it up. I would change that to only stop on user input (pressing a button). - The ratio conversion. Why offer XX.0 precision if you can only change the ratio in whole amounts? I'd suggest offering 0.1 increments, selectable with +/- buttons instead of cycling through. - The silicone mat is not well affixed and slides around. Kind of useless as-is and I just keep it off. I would wrap the whole thing around the measurement platform, similar to how the Greater Goods scale does it, to really keep it secure. It's not perfect, but for the price, it's a 4.5/5 for me. Rounding up to 5 since a 4 is considered "bad" by today's online rating standards.

IMO, a filter coffee lovers best scale option on a budget. Solid grade A choice.
    Color: Black
I have two other .1mg "coffee" or food scales that I used regular for pour overs. I saw this has 4x display on real time flow rate, g/mg weight, timer, and grounds to water ratio for a solid price and purchased this after reading some reviews. One of my scales has these features, but the workflow on this scale just clicked a ton better for me. The beep isn't super loud annoying which is a major relief, as I just couldn't keep sound on on my other scale due to that trigger honestly. I tried brew mode immediately and will now only use that when making a pour over. Loved the beep alerting when I finally hit the proper ratio and I like it keeps my final info on screen after the brew for my study. I can actually practice my technique now and not have split attention as much. This is still compact, but fits a larger carafe well whereas my other scale is a better fit for the espresso machine. The display is clear and buttons have a slight tactile sensation from the print, but are still the capacitive touch based style. I tested it with weights and it is my most accurate scale, it hit the .1g accurately every time or at worst would fluctuate back and forth quickly from the true value (more than enough for me to trust it). It updates and tares from power on fairly fast, it reacts fast enough to touch to not make me pause much. My nitpicks are that the front clear matte plastic isn't quite uniform flat viewed at an off angle giving it a cheaper look, but that doesn't affect functionality at all and truth is, it really was very affordable for the feature set I feel. The second nitpick was that the scale's mat does not grip well or fit securely over prompting it to move around easily. For this I had to modify using some rubberized grip tape on the surface of scale underneath the mat itself. Now it doesn't slide from vibration and if any pressure down it doesn't slip. I could have removed it totally, but it is attractive and useful once stabilized. With that modification done, I can fully recommend this scale for filter coffee lovers at any price. Great product, hopefully lasts me a long time.

Product was as described and meet my need for a scale measuring 0.1 g
    Color: Black
Product was as described. Works well. I use it for measuring the amount of coffee for my drip coffee maker. I have not done any testing with respect to actual accuracy so cannot comment. But it seems close to the other scale that I have that only measures to the nearest gram. Construction seems good. Nice looking unit.

    Nice scale
    Color: Black
Works as expected, nice size. Makes a big difference when adjusting espresso extraction. I haven't used the timer. One improvement for my use would be to move the power switch from the back to the front, on the side or on the control panel.
