Compatibility & Fitment
This middle spray arm (also known as the upper spray arm) attaches to the bottom of the upper dishrack in many Whirlpool-built dishwashers. Key compatible models include:
- Whirlpool: WDT750SAHZ0, WDT720PADM2, WDTA50SAHZ0, WDT730PAHZ, WDT970SAHZ.
- Maytag: MDB4949SDH, MDB7949SDM, MDB8959SFZ.
- Amana: ADB1400PYW, ADB1400PYB, ADB1100AWB.
- KitchenAid: Fits various KDT and KDF series models utilizing the W10498900 assembly.
When to Replace
- Dirty Upper Rack Dishes: Cups and bowls in the middle/upper rack remain greasy or have food particles left on them after a cycle.
- Cracked Housing: The plastic seams of the arm have split, causing water to leak out of the sides rather than the jets, which prevents the arm from spinning.
- Clogged Nozzles: Calcium, lime, or food debris have permanently blocked the spray holes.
- Arm Not Spinning: The arm is physically stuck or the mounting hub is worn, causing it to wobble and hit the dishes.
- Falling Off: The screw or mounting bracket that holds the arm to the rack has failed or stripped.
Installation Tips
- Safety First: Ensure the dishwasher is off. Pull the upper rack out completely to gain clear access to the bottom of the rack.
- Removal: Most models use a center mounting screw (which may be plastic). Unthread the screw by hand or with a nut driver to release the old arm.
- Manifold Check: Inspect the water delivery tube (manifold) at the back of the rack for cracks or clogs before attaching the new arm.
- Orientation: Ensure the spray jets are facing the correct direction (usually the larger jets face upward toward the cups) before tightening the center screw.
- Test Spin: Spin the arm by hand after installation to ensure it does not strike any part of the rack or the water supply tube.
