Clever Girl! Every good board game has a two player version these days and here we are with Duelosaur Island is the two player version of Dinosaur Island. Bringing the Jurassic to your park again this time perfectly formed for a duet.
To achieve this some alterations are made to the game while keeping a surprising amount of the big game’s DNA. You are still making a dino park to win over visitors while keeping the park dangerous enough to be attractive but safe enough for visitors to, you know, not get eaten.
This time around the visitors are your points directly so their status of eaten or not feels a tad more important. Losing visitors means losing points! Excitingly you still have dual layered player boards that track your DNA collection as well as park danger and security levels. The DNA dice and drafting of said dice remains with clever and appropriate tweaks.
The dinos and the rides are abstracted out to cards that have a dino on the top half and a ride on the bottom. Depending on which you have paid for, dinos with DNA and rides with money, you will tuck them under the player board at the top or the bottom. In a nice touch this displays the relevant art work!
You can still employ specialists as per Dinosaur Island and these are quite powerful cards that give you game bending abilities that are well worth grabbing, but you can only employ three at a time.
Duelosaur Island manages to streamline Dinosaur Island into a game that somehow still feels like it’s inspiration. Two player fans are in for a real treat and Dinosaur Island fans will find a similar experience with a quicker set up and play time!
