JIŘÍ GEORGES LAUDA (1925–2014) was born in Prague in 1925 in what was then Czechoslovakia. He studied at the city's Academy of Fine Arts, where he trained in multiple disciplines—including sculpture, printmaking, illustration, and ceramics. He immigrated to Montreal in 1951 and briefly pursued a career in education. In 1966, the inaugural year of the Montreal Metro, he cooperated with its artistic director, Robert LaPalme (best known as an editorial cartoonist), to create a bronze plaque memorializing the early development of the city’s public transportation system. The plaque is housed today in a circular black granite bench—commonly referred to as la rondelle, i.e., the hockey puck—that serves as a popular rendezvous point within the Berri-UQAM metro station.

LAUDA frequently worked with noted ceramist Paul Pannier (1926–1993), the founder of Pannier Céramiques of Montreal. Many of LAUDA’s table pieces were produced there. The typical division of labor would have LAUDA responsible for concept and design and Pannier for the firing and glazing. This specialization was likely extended to the execution of the major public art projects that LAUDA and Pannier collaborated on. LAUDA was also an accomplished illustrator and graphic designer.

NOTABLE PUBLIC WORKS:

  • LE POÈTE DANS L’UNIVERS—An homage to Québec poets Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau, Émile Nelligan, and Octave Crémazie, this immense mural adorns a transept wall above the Montmorency platform of Crémazie's namesake Montreal metro station. With ceramist Paul Pannier and artist-blacksmith Gérard Cordeau (1937–2003). 1968.
  • L’ÉVOLUTION DU NURSING—A depiction of the history of nursing from antiquity through its early days in Canada. It includes a representation of St. Marguerite d’Youville, founder of les Soeurs Grises (the Gray Sisters), and resides in the entrance hall of the pavilion that bears her name on the University of Montreal campus. 1974.
  • HOMMAGE À L’ESPRIT SPORTIF—Covering an entire exterior facade wall of Aréna Garon (an ice rink in Québec City), groupings of athletes, two male and two female, are portrayed. With ceramist Paul Pannier. 1990.

Comes with Battery!
Pattern Name: New Version, Color: Silver
The HP X3000 G3 Wireless Mouse (Silver) is a dependable, easygoing everyday mouse that delivers solid value for its price. It’s lightweight, comfortable to hold, and the side grips make it feel secure during long stretches of use. The scroll wheel moves smoothly, and the 1600 DPI sensor paired with Blue LED tracking keeps navigation accurate on most surfaces. One of its biggest strengths is the battery life, which can last up to 15 months on a single AA battery, making it a great option for travel or anyone who doesn’t want to think about charging. While it’s excellent for general work and browsing, it’s not built for gaming or precision‑heavy tasks, and it doesn’t offer extra buttons or customization features. A few users mention occasional sensitivity quirks, but overall it’s a reliable, no‑fuss mouse that handles everyday tasks with ease.

Dependable, Reliable

As advertised. Logitech, best mouse for your hard-earned cheddar! It’s not that the (years) old Logitech mouse failed in any operational way, it just got that gummy, sticky surface texture that’s impossible to remove. While shopping for a replacement I noticed an off-brand mouse/keyboard combo and thought, “hey, 2 for 1”…mistake. All was well for about three weeks, long enough that when the gremlins arrived I didn’t immediately associate the new hardware. For the purposes of this discussion, gentle reader, know that I run legacy (what I affectionately refer to as, “Lazarus”) builds. Rigs that started life running Windows Vista/7, died, and that now, resurrected, run 10 and 11, and all that that implies. So, when a mouse started stuttering, of course I thought it was a gremlin in the machine, right? I spent more days than I am comfortable sharing with you pouring over processes and background apps, and registry trims…before Accam’s Razor suggested I eliminate the mouse as a variable. Changing the battery was ineffective, but when I swapped in the ooold Logitech…Yahtzee/Bingo/Booyah…smooth and precise…butter! All I needed was a new Logitech mouse. So, if you’re here you likely are having mouse issues of your own, or you just need one that works…this is it! 😉

I needed this little thing quickly and got it within 2 hours of ordering. It was only an extra five bucks to get it now. Would have burned more than that in fuel. Works exactly as I would have expected. Perfect.

This is a dandy little item. Easy to use straight out of the box, No fancy bells and whistles.but why should a mouse try to replicate commands that are on the laptop?
