When Metal Church, Seattle's finest (originally formed in 1981), recorded their "Live 1986" album, they were in full swing, having just released two of Metal's most classic records: "Metal Church" (1984) and the brilliant follow-up "The Dark" (1986).

Those two platters are to this day considered to be the ultimate Metal Church records. A feat original guitarist Kurt Vanderhoof is not bothered by: "Not at all! To have anything that you have created to be considered a classic is very much an honour." Nevertheless, Metal Church never made it on a scale such as Metallica, Megadeth or even Slayer. What's the reason for this? "I believe that it was mainly due to the line-up changes. That ALWAYS hurts a band. We also had a lot of trouble in the business department and bad contracts etc."

As a result, Metal Church is no more, as Kurt Vanderhoof explains: "It just became too difficult to keep it going in any kind of professional manner. It was just not fun anymore." A very sad end to a brilliant band. However, Kurt is still playing music: "I'm putting all my energies into Presto Ballet. My Progressive rock band. We are getting ready to record our third album."

When "Live 1986" was originally released on CD through SPV/CMM, promotion was very limited. "That seems to be the story of Metal Church", sighs Kurt Vanderhoof, one of the most underrated Metal guitarists ever. Can he still remember anything about the actual gig? "I just remember that we had been up all night the night before and I still can't figure out how the hell we played everything at 'light speed' like we did." Deep Purple's "Highway Star" closes this fantastic live gig, the one and only cover version Metal Church ever played in concert: "That was the only cover we ever did live. We did some stuff in the studio but nothing outside of that."

Although Metal Church played huge festivals like the Dynamo Open Air (when it still was strictly a Metal festival), the most memorable gig in Kurt Vanderhoof's career took place elsewhere: "For me it was the Hammersmith Odeon in London. It was the place that I always wanted to play. All my heroes had played there." With Metal Church not a recording entity any more, Kurt still owes the Metal world a history DVD, something he is working on at the time of writing: "A good friend of ours has been doing some documentary filming since the band got back together and we have a bunch of old footage from the early days that we are going to put together very soon." Detailed world building
Format: Kindle, Format: Kindle
I was completely immersed in the world that Dani spun so well. The book is filled with details and beautiful descriptions. The tempo and flow of the book was easy to follow. The book follows a strong female business owner who has dealt with prejudices and discrimination. The love story that develops is beautiful. My favorite line in the book sums it up perfectly. “…she had forgotten, for a moment, what parts she had. She was simply a woman being made love to by another woman.”

Sweet and Spicy

I really enjoyed this. It is mushy and sweet and very spicy as well. I like how the MCs business is part of it and also the love interest's son. Interesting world building as well.

What a spicy lovely tale of love
Format: Kindle
I receive an ARC copy and am leaving my thoughts voluntarily. I really liked all the other books in this series and it was so nice to see characters I loved again while being introduced to some new faces that I can to love just as much. And I love seeing that some development has occurred! It’s not vital to the story but still nice to see. The idea of a romance with one character being a single mom isn’t something I see too often. And it’s done so well here. There’s genuine interest in not only the mom but the child as well and becoming a true family, with all feelings considered. I adored seeing the interactions with Theo. And one character is also trans, with some societal pushback they have to struggle though, which makes life all the harder and the sweet scenes all the sweeter. The spice here is high. But the thing I love about all Dani’s books is the strong emphasis on consent. It’s not there as an afterthought, it is as important as aspect as the physical act! And I adore it. Anyone that argues consent can’t be sexy should read Dani’s books. The world building is woven into the plot with exploration of history, discussion of the “he said, she said” of historical events, and how knowing the truth is important. I loved seeing the characters uncover and process everything. That’s probably a huge trait of Dani’s books I adore—there’s room to breathe. They give you the space to really process which adds to the realism. These are character driven books and I love getting to know each one. Recommend this one and all the ones before it! Just make sure you can handle the spice and the nastiness of how cruel people can be because it pulls no punches.
