This is my story of the man, Rewi Alley – family member, writer, humanitarian, activist and unwitting myth-maker. It is also the story of his relationship with a country, China, about which I now know enough to acknowledge how little I know. A Communist in the Family: Searching for Rewi Alley is a beautifully written multi-layered narrative centred on New Zealander Rewi Alley and his part in the momentous political events of mid-twentieth-century China. Part-biography, part-travel journal, part-literary commentary, A Communist in the Family brings together Alley’s story and that of his author cousin, Elspeth Sandys. In 2017, Sandys travelled to China with other family members to mark the ninetieth anniversary of Rewi’s arrival in Shanghai in 1927. One strand of this book follows that journey and charts Sandys’ impressions of modern China. Another tells the story of Rewi’s early life, in an insightful meditation on the complex and always elusive relationship between memory and writing. The additive makes the water nice and minty. Each pack flavors one tank full of water.

First impressions: Nice individually portioned packages of concentrated additive for use in your water flosser. The liquid inside is to be added to a full tank of water. It makes the water nice and minty.
Installation/setup: Add to a full tank of water in your water flossing machine.
Final thoughts: The additive makes the water nice and minty. Each pack flavors one tank full of water. The instructions say to use the flosser twice a day and it is really a very pleasant taste. I like this and I’m glad I got it.

For water flossers but can be used otherwise!
I misunderstood the product description and thought these were concentrated mini-mouthwash packets. They are actually an additive intended to pop into a water flosser, like using mint flavored floss instead of plain. I pitched my water flosser long ago but gave these a try as a concentrated regular mouthwash. I like it! The box contains a really cute fish-shaped packet. You snap off the end, or "tail" section, and be careful not to let it splash. Mix with a little water and you have a mouthwash. For travel, this is really convenient. I take a mini-mouthwash but am always worried about it leaking or TSA giving me grief. This would be a good option to have on hand. It's not particularly strong or a heavy alcohol based one like Listerine, but it did leave my breath feeling very fresh.

A Fluoride‑Free Toothpaste the Whole Family Honestly Loves

We’ve been using Boka Fluoride Free Toothpaste with Nano‑Hydroxyapatite for a while now, and it has easily become a staple in our household. Finding a toothpaste that is both clean and effective and something my daughter actually enjoys using has always been a challenge, but this one truly checks every box.
First, the flavors deserve special mention. We’ve tried Orange Cream and Watermelon Mint, and my daughter absolutely loves both. There’s no struggle at brushing time anymore, no complaints, no resistance. She actually looks forward to brushing her teeth, which as any parent knows, is a huge win. The flavors are fun but not overpowering, and they don’t have that harsh or medicinal taste found in many toothpastes, especially “kid-friendly” ones.
From a parent’s perspective, what really sold us is the fact that Boka is fluoride‑free and made with clean ingredients. We love knowing that we’re not exposing her to unnecessary chemicals while still supporting good oral hygiene. The inclusion of nano‑hydroxyapatite gives us peace of mind as well, it feels like a modern, thoughtful alternative that aligns with what we want for our family. The toothpaste feels gentle, non‑gritty, and leaves mouths feeling smooth and clean without dryness or irritation.
The texture is another pleasant surprise. It’s creamy and smooth, easy to spread on the toothbrush, and doesn’t foam excessively. Both flavors leave a fresh, clean feeling afterward without any lingering bitterness. Even as adults, we genuinely enjoy using it, which says a lot, we often find ourselves reaching for it instead of our usual toothpaste.
Overall, Boka Toothpaste has made brushing easier, more enjoyable, and more reassuring for our family. Toddler Approved!
Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1), Set name: A. Strawberry Mango
I never thought I’d describe toothpaste as “fun,” but here we are... I bought this Boka strawberry mango flavor for my toddler — I figured he would enjoy this over a mint flavor because what kid enjoys a harsh, burning feeling? It smells fruity and tastes like a smoothie. We are still practicing brushing but this toothpaste helps encourage the importance of daily teeth maintenance. Also, I love that it’s fluoride-free and I am not worried if it's swallowed. It is pricier than I would prefer, but it has lasted so long that I've came to terms that it's worth the cost.
