The MA Transfer Case Pump Upgrade is the ultimate solution for preventing pump rub and fluid loss in your 98-early 07 GM transfer case. This kit can be added as a precautionary measure or as a repair for a previous pump rub failure. Either way, it's a must-have upgrade for your transfer case!

This kit has everything needed to upgrade and fix a transfer case that has been damaged by pump rub and requires replacement of the rear case half. It's ideal for vehicles with NP136, NP149, NV149, NP236, NP246, NP261, NP261HD, NP263, and NP263HD transfer cases and gas engines. Keep in mind that a lack of lubrication may have caused additional hidden internal damage that could call for extra parts. Once properly installed, this kit is backed by MA's Limited Lifetime Warranty, so no need to worry about pump rub failure.

Additional Info

What is a Transfer Case "Pump Rub" Failure?

GM transfer cases used from 1998 through early 2007 use a gear pump inside the case that is driven off the mainshaft. The pump forces oil to the planetary as well as the drive sprocket sleeve. Because the pump is driven by the shaft, the housing of the pump must "float" in the rear housing. There are tabs around the pump housing that fit into spots in the rear housing to locate the pump housing and prevent it from spinning inside the case with the mainshaft. Over time, the pump tabs can start to wear on the rear housing. GM installed a spring steel clip in the housing intended to prevent wear, but the clip can break and be rendered useless.

Since the pump housing is aluminum and is a harder material than the magnesium rear housing, it can wear a hole in the rear housing and cause a very small leak. This leak is frequently high enough on the case that it typically will not leak when vehicle is not moving and therefore not leaving any drops on the ground; it will however leak while the vehicle is in motion. Unfortunately, since the transfer case does not have a low fluid indicator the pump rub failure is often not found until there is transfer case damage from running the case out of fluid.

Avoid costly repairs to your transfer case by preventing "Pump Rub" by installing an MA Transfer Case Pump Upgrade kit in your transfer case today, before it happens to your vehicle.

FAQ

What do I do with the OEM anti-rattle clip when installing this upgrade?

Discard the factory clip during installation of the MA Transfer Case Pump Upgrade kit. It's been designed and precision machined to work with the clip removed.

What other parts will I need to install this upgrade and repair kit?

MA tried to make the kit all-inclusive for an upgrade and repair installation after pump rub failure has occurred without including internal parts (like bearings, shafts, planetary gears, etc...) that may not necessarily be required. Unfortunately, there is no real way to know the extent of the damage inside the case until it is completely disassembled. In many instances, as long as the case has not run out of fluid, it can be repaired with the new rear housing and components included in this kit to prevent pump rub from ever happening again. Be sure to refill the transfer case with the MA Performance Transfer Case Fluid included in this kit for excellent lubrication and performance and replace your original drain and fill plugs with the MA Magnetic Drain Plug kit also included with this kit as an additional layer of protection to catch metal debris from the fluid circulating inside the transfer case as well as replacing the factory plugs which are often rounded off or damaged.

I hear a grinding noise at low speed after installing the kit. What could that be?

A low speed grinding noise is most commonly caused by the rear output bearing snap ring not being fully seated causing the bearing to move out of proper alignment. Verify that the snap ring is fully engaged and properly seated in the rear housing and the locating groove in the bearing.

What would cause a speed sensor correlation code after installing this upgrade?

A speed sensor correlation code is often accompanied by a low-speed grinding noise and is frequently caused by the rear output bearing snap ring not being fully seated causing the bearing to move out of proper alignment. Verify that the snap ring is fully engaged and properly seated in the rear housing and the locating groove in the bearing.

Excellent wrist rest, BUT not for me
I'm rating this wrist rest 5 stars despite the fact that it's not for me. The reason that it is not for me is simple: My palms get very sweaty, and this makes my palms stick to the wrist rest, making it hard to move my hands around. This is an inherent limitation of the fact that it is made out of wood, and drove me to the 17" x 4" x 0.75" foam wrist rest from Grifiti instead. If you don't have sweaty palms, however, this wrist rest is perfect. It is 4 inches deep instead of the typical 3.1 inches, it is the perfect height and tapered just so for maximum comfort, the wood (Golden Oak color) is beautiful, and the engraved logo is tasteful and non-intrusive.

The perfect wrist rest. Stop looking, just buy this one!
Color: Onyx, Size: Tenkeyless/TKL Keyboard Wrist Rest, Color: Onyx, Size: Tenkeyless/TKL Keyboard Wrist Rest
The perfect wrist rest. I used those gel and silicone wrist rests thinking the softer they are the better. Not so. This is solid hardwood and my wrists no longer ache after a long day at the computer. The size I picked is perfect for a TKL keyboard. The angles, height, and design are optimal for a comfortable typing experience. Even 8-10 hours of typing! I love Glorious' products, they come so well packaged and attention to every detail is given. Gosh, its just a wrist rest! No, it is a tool that provides comfortable work experience.

The wood is great.
I used to use a typical padded wrist pad, but am a heavy sweater. Upon reading another review in regards to that matter I decided to take the plunge on this rest. I have been a user of the Model O mouse from Glorious for a while and liked it so I trusted the company's reputation for taking gamers' needs into consideration. After using it for about a week and playing different types of games/working from home on it, I can say that although your sweat might pool during sweaty moments, it's easy to wipe off and doesn't seem to easily absorb into the wood. The wood itself is of a nice quality, I like the oak over the onyx for a more "real wood" look. There was no difference in comfort for me, you'd think being used to a padded wrist this shift would be "hard" on me, but no, I haven't had any problems. It's ergonomics for typing are also good as I notice my WPM and consistency be higher on multiple tests. All-in-all quite satisfied with the purchase, fits the aesthetic, feel, and ergonomics I was looking for.
