Explore the transformative journey of environmentalism in 'The Age of Ecology,' a groundbreaking work by renowned author Frank Radkau. This book is an essential addition to your eco-library, offering an in-depth exploration of the history of environmental movements from their romantic origins in the late 18th century to the pressing issues of the present day.Spanning 600 pages of comprehensive analysis, Radkau delves into the complexities of environmental activism, revealing a tapestry of interconnected stories. It portrays the dynamic interplay between grassroots movements and global environmental organizations, as well as the tug-of-war between charismatic leaders and institutional frameworks. The book illustrates how issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution have pushed environmentalism into the spotlight since the pivotal 'environmental revolution' of the 1970s, especially after major events like the Chernobyl disaster and rising awareness of global warming.
Perfect for students, educators, activists, and anyone passionate about sustainability, 'The Age of Ecology' unpacks the true essence of environmental history and its implications for our future. This vital resource not only highlights the struggles faced by ecological advocates but also illustrates how their efforts have led to significant policy changes and societal awareness.

Description:
This book is the first major study of the history of
environmentalism, from its origins in romanticism and the nature
cults of the late 18th century to the global environmental
movements of today.
Radkau shows that this is not a single story of the steady ascent
of environmentalism but rather a multiplicity of stories, each with
its own dramatic tension: between single-issue movements and the
challenges posed by the interconnection of environmental issues,
between charismatic leaders and bureaucratic organizations, and
between grassroot movements and global players. While the history
can be traced back several centuries, environmentalism has
flourished since the ?environmental revolution? of
1970, spurred on by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986 and the
growing concern about global warming. While environmentalists often
opposed the scientific mainstream, they were also often led by
scientific knowledge. Environmentalism is the true Enlightenment of
our time Ă so much so that we can call our era ?the age
of ecology?.
This timely and comprehensive global history of environmentalism
will be essential reading for anyone concerned with the most
pressing global issues of our time.

Love these socks!
The wife struggles with socks. She only like the Nike ones, then they discontinued them, so had to start the search again! Found these, they are expensive just like the Nike, but the size is true, they look great, they are super soft and stretchy. They are light weight and breathable and seem to wick away moisture. She loves these!
