Baseball first arrived in 1897 with a Central League team, and the Egyptians later competed in the Kitty League from 1903–1906, 1911–1914, 1922–1924, and 1946–1950, ending as the Cairo Dodgers. Once a thriving town of nearly 20,000, Cairo’s population has since dwindled to about 1,700.
