When to Replace
- The air filter appears visibly dark, oil-soaked, or clogged with dirt and grass.
- Engine experiences a loss of power, reduced RPM, or "stumbles" during acceleration.
- Noticeable increase in fuel consumption or difficulty starting the engine.
- The spark plug shows heavy carbon deposits, electrode wear, or a cracked ceramic insulator.
- The fuel filter is discolored or shows signs of restricted fuel flow.
- As part of a standard preventative maintenance schedule (typically every 25–50 hours of use).
Installation Tips
- Ensure the engine is off and the spark plug wire is disconnected before performing maintenance.
- Air Filter: Release the filter cover clips, remove the old filter, and wipe the housing clean of any loose debris before inserting the new element.
- Fuel Filter: Use a wire hook to carefully pull the fuel line out of the tank; swap the filter and ensure the line is seated correctly at the bottom of the tank.
- Spark Plug: Use a standard spark plug wrench to remove the old plug; hand-thread the new plug to prevent cross-threading before tightening with a wrench.
- Check that the air filter cover is securely snapped into place to prevent unfiltered air from entering the intake.
