Unlock the intricate tapestry of Human Geography with our revised and updated text, meticulously crafted for undergraduate students. Authored by Mark Boyle, this essential resource offers a robust foundation in human geography through a historical, geographical, and thematic perspective. With nearly thirty years of educational expertise, Boyle emphasizes that 'history makes geography while geography makes history,' demonstrating the reciprocal influence between geography and societal evolution.

This authoritative introduction delves into the principal demographic, social, political, economic, cultural, and environmental processes that shape our world today. By examining how regions have historically impacted each other, readers gain a deeper understanding of the forces that drive change.

The revised edition reflects the latest developments in post-colonial scholarship, enriching discussions on key concepts, seminal thinkers, and the influential texts that have shaped the discipline. Tailored for beginners yet avoiding oversimplification, the book presents complex theories with clarity and confidence, encouraging critical thought and engagement.

New and noteworthy features include extensive revisions and updates on pivotal ideas, ongoing debates, and case studies, alongside a brand-new chapter focused on uneven geographical development. This ensures a comprehensive view of contemporary human geography, making it an indispensable addition to any academic library.

Description:

Revised, Extended, and Extensively Updated Text Uses Historical Geographical and Thematic Approach to Provide Undergraduates with a Firm Foundation in Human Geography

Drawing on nearly three decades of instructional experience and a wealth of testing pedagogical innovations with students, Mark Boyle has revised and expanded this authoritative and comprehensive introduction to Human Geography. As with the First Edition, Boyle follows the premise that śhistory makes geography whilst geography makes history,ť and that the key to studying the principal demographic, social, political, economic, cultural and environmental processes in any region in the world today is to look at how that region has been impacted by, and in turn has impacted, the story of the rise, reign, and decline of the West. Moreover he argues that Human Geography itself is best understood as both an intellectual endeavour and a historical, political, and institutional project.

Informed by recent developments in post-colonial scholarship, the book covers key concepts, seminal thinkers, and influential texts in the field. Although designed for the beginner student, Boyle does not shy away from ideas and debates often avoided in introductory texts, clearly communicating theory without condescension. In addition, he places human geography in its larger academic context, discussing the influences on the field from related subjects. Notable features in the Second Edition include:

Extensive revision and updating of coverage of key ideas, developments, debates and case studies

Its sturdy/heavy and the suction cups on the bottom work well. Our family is able to pull the paper towel without pulling the whole holder with them. The arm that holds the paper towel works well and we can pull one towel at a time. We are very happy with this product.

It was simple to put together. It holds my biggest paper towel roll with no issues. No complaints. Glad I purchased it.

would be five stars, but it makes a weird clicking sound as you pull a sheet to dispense
Color: Silver
After researching tons of these, and actually owning some of them in the past, I landed on this brand. i’m hoping it stands the test of time. In times past, the arm broke from the other heavy duty paper towel holders I bought (I think I’m on my fourth one right now. It’s pretty sad.). This one seems pretty stable. I like the suction cups on the bottom, although sometimes it makes it difficult to move and clean around it because it really has a good grab on my granite countertop. The one thing that I’m not a fan of is a clicky kind of sound when you pull a sheet to tear off. It’s a little bit annoying and kinda loud. If there were superior paper towel holders without the clicking sound I most definitely would purchase, but the other ones seem to be junk. Crossing fingers this one works. I’ll just have to ignore that clicking sound. It’s just how that propeller-like mechanism works that the paper towel itself slides onto.

Buying a 2nd one for the bathroom! Stays EXACTLY in place but easily slides on any surface to where ever you want it!! NOT like traditional paper towel holder that fall over when you pull the sheets apart!!! Great value! Convenient! Stable! Easy to install!
