Description:
Ideas about numbers, magnitudes and frequencies shape and give texture to almost everything we feel, say, dream and do. In Living by Numbers, Steven Connor explores the many ways in which we live in, and by, a world of numbers.Connor homes in on the unsuspected weirdness of the number one, the links between horror, counting and the uncountable, and the close associations of numbers and death. He considers the way we make sense of crowds, swarms, masses and multitudes, and demonstrates the work of calculation that is always present in poems, jokes, laughter and pleasure. He shows how we use numbers to adjust ourselves to chance and uncertainty, examines the pressure of numbers in the experience of music, explains how they exert their force in painting, and reveals the many different ways in which numbers and quantities have taken visual form in diagrams, charts and infographics.Against the lazy and conventional assumption that human life needs to be defended against the alien and malign power of numbers, this book illustrates how essential the feeling for numbers is in all aspects of contemporary existence, arguing that no creativity or invention are in fact possible without numbers. Living by Numbers opens up for the first time the richness, variety and subtlety of how we do things with numbers and, just as importantly, how they do things with us.

junk
radio runs hot even when not transmitting. programming cable does not work with win 11. it does work with chirp once you find a 10 year old pc to program it. programming from the front panel seems impossible. knobs are made of rubber and keep falling off. i am sure i will find more once i use it for a while if it lasts.
Update: I was able to trudge through the manual and make the changes i needed from the front panel, took a while with the darn buttons falling off. Manual is not good but with some patience you can work through it. If you need a tiny radio and your budget allows i would look at the anytone 778.

good radio for the money
THE GOOD.. These are very good radios for the money, we currently have 6 of these the oldest is probably 3 years old, we can mounter all local emergency services, easily get into all of our local ham 2 meter and 70 cm repeaters. It IS NOT part 95 compliant by the FCC which means it IS NOT LEGAL for GMRS use, but it can broadcast and receive on all FRS, MURS and GMRS frequency's, use at your own risk on these frequency's. One of these radio's are in a ranch jeep it is our oldest radio, this thing has lived in hot dusty environment, been soaked with water and mud and has held up great. Easy to program with CHIRP.
THE BAD.. They claim the they are 25 watt VHF 20 watt UHF, The ones we have only put out 18-19 watts, which is plenty of power for most repeater operation. The data port and speaker port are side by side on the back if you have your radio mounted to were you cant see the rear and put the programing cable into the speaker port it WILL blow your speaker.

It works, quality could be better
I was going to use this on a trip from Boise to Alaska as a multi use radio to listen to LADD, FRS, GMRS, and talk on Ham frequencies. After programming it and playing around with it, I decided to take my FT7250D.
Like:
Small size
Lots of memories
Audio is OK
Programming cable included.
Multi frequency monitoring, if you’re into that (I’m not).
Dislike:
Quality - knobs are soft rubber and come off easily.
4 frequency displays. Why? Cannot turn them off.
Display text is small because of the 4 displays.
Accessing features and menu items can be confusing.
