How to set your tension – Drop Test: Start by holding your shears upright with tension dial facing you. Hold the left side with your left hand, use your right hand to lift the right handle up and then let the right-side fall to a close. If the blade does not move, then the tension needs to be loosened (turn dial to the left). If the blade slams shut, then it needs to be tightened (turn dial to the right). Optimal tension is if the blade closes ½ to ¾ of the way. Things that can also affect a drop test is if your shears are not clean or oiled and if there is any build up on the blades. To clean your shears place rubbing alcohol on a rag and wipe off any reside and dirt.
