The cuff is adjustable. Most paddlers wear it around the upper calf, right below the knee. That keeps the leash a little further from your feet and gives you a cleaner release if it ever snags and you need to get it off fast. Prefer the ankle? It fits there too, no calf tan line required.
One honest limit: do not use this leash in fast-moving rivers where snags and entrapment are possible. In moving water, you need a leash attached to a quick-release safety belt or a purpose-built quick-release leash system. For everything else, flatwater, lakes, ocean, touring, and windy days, this leash is the right call.
