Maar in dat huis wacht hem een andere oorlog: de vrouw die door de barse grootvader was aangenomen als ‘meid voor dag en nacht’ verzet zich steeds meer tegen haar dienende rol. Zij, Ommie, vervult de rol van grootmoeder en groeit uit tot vredestichter in de gehavende familie van haar broodheer. Ook tijdens de oorlog bleek zij al een heldin. De jongen spiegelt zich aan haar dapperheid en zij helpt hem zijn angsten te overwinnen. Er ontstaat een hechte band tussen die twee – gekleurd door hun hunkering naar liefde en erkenning. In de reconstructie van Ommies leven en die ingrijpende zomer schakelt Van Dis op verrassende wijze van vroeger naar nu en laat zo zien wat het heden zegt over het verleden. Met Naar zachtheid en een warm omhelzen schrijft hij een vergeten hoofdstuk uit zijn oeuvre.

Unsafe Buckle - Risky for tiny fingers

I at first really liked these sandals, however once my son started learning how to undo the Velcro strap, his fingers began to catch painfully in the decorative buckle. Now I see the sandals as an unsafe option and have subsequently tossed them.

Cute but a little stiff
These are cute and well made. I think the sole is a little too stiff for babies learning how to walk that are used to bare feet. The back of the sandal also slips down sometimes. Overall a decent purchase if you just need something for looks more than function.

Amazing first shoes

These are a fantastic in between option for after moccs and before hard sole shoes. Research shows that barefoot is best for foot development, but living in AZ the ground is way too hot for Moccs in the summer. These are a great compromise since we don’t want to use hard soles for as long as possible. Love this brand and these sandals are so cute!
