Samen met Michael heb ik ervoor gekozen om merlot toe te voegen aan de blend van zweigelt en blaufränkisch. Dit resulteert in een sappige wijn met structuur en iets wat rijper rood fruit. Nog meer een people pleaser dan de vorige jaargang maar even harmonieus, elegant en met behoorlijk wat diepgang. Het is een ontzettend veelzijdige borrel- maar ook eetwijn en voor mij de perfecte fles rood om altijd in huis te hebben. Vandaar dat hij met trots de naam Chatobi huiswijn rood mag dragen.

Nog even een kleine mededeling; kleine makers doen alles zelf. Van het plukken tot het persen tot het vullen en het plakken van de etiketten. Met zo veel aan je hoofd kan er natuurlijk weleens een keertje iets misgaan. De wijnmaker heeft namelijk deze jaargang beplakt met het verkeerde achter label. Hier staat op dat er alleen zweigelt en blaufränkisch in de wijn zit. Wij wilden hem niet vragen alle labels weer van de flessen te krabben, zijn tijd is veel beter besteed met het maken van goede wijn. Dat begrijpen jullie wel.
