Elke speler probeert de beste beschaving op te bouwen door zorgvuldig grondstoffenbeheer, het ontdekken van nieuwe technologieën, het kiezen van de juiste leiders, het bouwen van wonderen en het onderhouden van een sterk leger. Zwakke punten op elk gebied kunnen door je tegenstanders worden uitgebuit. Het spel speelt zich door de eeuwen heen af, beginnend in de oudheid en eindigend in de moderne tijd.
Een van de belangrijkste mechanismen in TTA is het opstellen van kaarten. Technologieën, wonderen en leiders komen in het spel en worden gemakkelijker op te stellen naarmate ze langer in het spel zijn. Om een technologie te gebruiken heb je genoeg wetenschap nodig om hem te ontdekken, genoeg voedsel om een bevolking te creëren om hem te bemannen en genoeg grondstoffen (erts) om het gebouw te bouwen om hem te gebruiken. Terwijl je de grondstoffen die nodig zijn om je technologie te ontwikkelen in evenwicht brengt, moet je ook een leger bouwen. Militairen worden op dezelfde manier gebouwd als civiele gebouwen. Spelers die een zwak leger hebben zullen een prooi zijn voor andere spelers. Er is geen kaart in het spel dus je kunt geen gebied verliezen, maar spelers met hogere militairen zullen grondstoffen stelen, wetenschap, leiders doden, bevolking of cultuur innemen. Het is erg moeilijk om te winnen met een groot leger, maar het is erg gemakkelijk om te verliezen door een zwak leger.
De overwinning wordt behaald door de speler wiens natie aan het einde van de moderne tijd de meeste cultuur heeft.

My Aussiedoodle loves it. I throw it down the hallway, it bounces crazy, and he chases it. The only complaint is that he can't chew much of the ball part. So now I have to have it put away and brought out for special playtime.

My pomsky will destroy a toy in minutes. Ropes, and the "indestructible" nylon type stuffs are no match for my furry shark. This ball has stood up to him like David. He loves the crunch and it is so much more tolerable than a squeaker. These will be a staple in his toy box - Chuckit toys are really the most durable dog toys I have found in three years.

Dogs love them

Our dogs love these. What’s great is that you can add more plastic (like from water bottles) if the plastic starts to fall out from the center. If you have a chewer, though, these won’t last you long. Our shepherd mix loves these and then starts to pull the rubber apart the more she plays with it. Our other dogs treat it normally, though, and those ones last forever. They also get some decent height when bounced, and they make a unique whistling noise when thrown.
