Herkomst en kenmerken

De Bougainvillea is van oorsprong een Zuid-Amerikaanse plant die van warmte en zon houdt. In ons klimaat doet hij het uitstekend als kuipplant, mits goed verzorgd. De kleurrijke bloemen die je ziet, zijn eigenlijk opvallende schutbladeren die de kleine, onopvallende bloempjes omringen. Hoe meer zon deze plant krijgt, hoe intenser de kleuren oplichten!

Met een hoogte van 110 cm en een potmaat van Ø21 cm is deze op stam gekweekte variant perfect voor op een zonnig terras, aan de rand van een veranda of als decoratieve eyecatcher bij de entree van je huis.

Standplaats en lichtbehoefte

De Bougainvillea op stam houdt van zon, zon en nog eens zon. Een beschutte, warme plek is ideaal. Hoe meer direct zonlicht, hoe rijker en langer de bloei. Goede standplaatsen zijn onder andere:

  • Tegen een zonnige gevel op het zuiden

  • Op een terras of balkon met veel licht

  • In een serre of kas tijdens koelere maanden

Verzorging van de Bougainvillea op stam

Deze plant vraagt wat aandacht, maar geeft er een zee aan bloemen voor terug. Met de juiste verzorging geniet je maandenlang van zijn kleurrijke uitstraling.

  • Water geven: Gemiddelde waterbehoefte. Houd de grond licht vochtig, maar vermijd natte voeten. Controleer regelmatig met je vinger of de aarde droog aanvoelt.

  • Snoeien: Snoei na de bloei om de vorm te behouden en nieuwe vertakkingen te stimuleren. In het voorjaar kan een extra snoeibeurt de groei bevorderen.

  • Voeding: Geef van maart t/m oktober elke twee weken voeding voor bloeiende planten om de bloei en bladkleur te versterken.

Winterhardheid en overwintering

De Bougainvillea op stam is niet winterhard. Zet hem voor de eerste vorst binnen op een lichte, koele plek. Tijdens de winterperiode heeft de plant minder water nodig. Controleer af en toe de grond en geef spaarzaam water indien nodig.
