De wijnmaker van August Kesseler wil rond vijf uur niets liever dan een Riesling. En met deze gedachte heeft hij deze Five O’Clock Riesling op de markt gebruikt. Een heldere, sappige en minerale wijn die ook nog eens ontzettend dorstlessend is. Een perfecte wijn dus rond de klok van 5.

Diverse kwaliteitswijnen van August Kesseler

In het hart van de Assmannshausen in de wijnregio de Rheingau ligt de wijnmakerij van August Kesseler. Ze bezitten de beste Pinot Noir en Riesling wijngaarden in deze regio, en zijn daarom bevoorrecht om daarmee ook hoogwaardige kwaliteitswijnen te produceren. Het wijnhuis is in 1924 opgericht en richtte zich toentertijd voornamelijk op bulkwijnen. Inmiddels is het uitgegroeid van 6 hectare tot 80 hectare en is het een van de vlaggenschipproducenten van het Rheingau gebied geworden. Ze produceren 60 procent Riesling en 40 procent Pinot Noir en zijn lid van de VDP en het Duitse Barrique-Forum. Ze brengen een breed scala aan wijnen op de markt. Van wit, rood en rose tot mooie mousserende wijnen. De Riesling druiven zijn afkomstig van verschillende wijngaarden in Rudesheim, Geisenheim en Erbach. De wijnstokken staan diepgeworteld in een terroir van leisteen, kwartsiet, löss en leem. Het geeft de druiven bijzondere eigenschappen mee. Elke wijngaard wordt apart van elkaar gevinificeerd. Na de oogst worden de druiven direct naar de wijnmakerij gebracht en volgt er een temperatuur gecontroleerde gisting in roestvrijstalen tanks. Daarna wordt het sap geblend en gebotteld.

Een sappige Riesling van August Kesseler

De Five O’Clock Riesling kleurt citroengeel in het glas met hier en daar een groene gloed. Direct komen de heerlijke aroma’s je tegemoet. Perzik, appel en bloemen voeren de boventoon met wat licht kruidige tonen. De smaak is sappig en luchtig met mooie minerale tonen. Deze Riesling is toegankelijk en heerlijk fris, en daardoor perfect voor bij een zomerse salade.

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
