In dit spel reist Link per trein, wat weer allerlei nieuwe mogelijkheden tot het oplossen van puzzels oplevert. Het spel kent hetzelfde soort uiterlijk en sfeer dat in Nintendo DS-spel The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass werd neergezet.

Held van de Spirit Tracks

Spirit Tracks valt in de catergorie action-adventure en draait om gevechten en uitdagende puzzels in een epische verhaallijn. Het spel is volledig in 3D. Link beweegt door met de stylus op het touchscreen de richting aan te geven. In gevechten volstaat het vijanden aan te tikken om een aanval uit te voeren. Uiteraard vergen verschillende vijanden ook verschillende tactieken. Bij het oplossen van de puzzels wordt op een originele manier gebruik gemaakt van het touchscreen. Link reist in een trein die hij zelf bestuurt. Vijanden en obstakels op zijn spoor kan hij elimineren met een kanon, maar het is ook mogelijk te versnellen, vertragen of van spoor te verwisselen.

Tussen vriend en vijand

Nieuw in het spel is dat Link vergezeld wordt door de geest van prinses Zelda. Zij kan tegenstanders of Phantoms van Link 'overnemen', waardoor de vijand een bondgenoot wordt. De speler kan de Phantom dan opdrachten geven zodat deze helpt in moeilijke situaties. De Phantoms zullen ook nuttig zijn bij het oplossen van puzzels. De extreem uitdagende puzzels kan je oplossen door aantekeningen te maken op de verschillende landkaarten.

- Link heeft er een waardevolle nieuwe vriend bij. Als hij zich een weg door kerkers baant, krijgt hij gezelschap van een Phantom, een enorm wandelend harnas dat zijn bevelen opvolgt. Je kunt de Phantom aantikken om het bevel over hem te nemen en een lijn over het touchscreen trekken om hem de gewenste richting in te sturen. De stoere Phantom kan recht door vuur of lava wandelen, als platform gebruikt worden om Link boven het gevaar uit te tillen en zelfs als bodyguard optreden om Link tegen allerlei onheil te beschermen.
- Als Link de trein bestuurt, wordt je getrakteerd op een fijne mengeling van actie en realtime puzzelen: besluit welk spoor je neemt en wat de beste snelheid voor de situatie is. Op de trein moet Link de beste route plannen tot het einde van de verbinding, om altijd bewegende hindernissen heen. Onderweg kan Link het boordkanon afvuren op vijanden die de trein aanvallen of de fluit gebruiken om dieren van het spoor te jagen.
- Link heeft beschikking over heel wat nieuwe voorwerpen en wapens, waaronder de Whirlwind, die je kunt gebruiken door in de microfoon van de Nintendo DS of Nintendo DSi te blazen.
- Net zoals in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, kun je met de stylus en het touchscreen notities maken op de kaarten in het spel.
- Draadloze multi-card play en download play voor 2-4 personen.

It’s painful. Not worth it.

I hate it. Period. Very strong feelings about it right out of the box. Gave it a few days, and not only do I still hate it but it’s very painful to use. The rubber material is hard and has pressure points that make you come away feeling like you’ve rested your wrist on the edge of a table for too long. I come away more sore using this than not. They only have small and large sizes, I think the small is too small for me? (I’m not sure. I can tell it doesn’t fit well, but I can’t tell if it’s because it’s too small or the shape isn’t right for my wrist). In any event, I am sure the large would be too large and even if they had a medium size I still wouldn’t repurchase this. Maybe if you’ve got some meat on your bones it would be more comfortable but as you can see, I am a very thin person and this is pressing on all the wrong places. I also feel like the center valley part contributes to carpal tunnel pain because the very firm edges of each side rested right in that area, not offering any support to the valley of the wrist, and therefore creating pressure to that nerve center and the ligaments. I don’t know why they chose this material, it’s too firm. Also, I think a better design would be a little tab from the center of it sticking out and then attaching to the bottom of the mouse so that both mouse and the wrist “support” worked as one unit when moving the mouse around. I often found that I didn’t drag the wrist piece with my mouse well and that it caused even more issues. If it were comfortable I would have made a little tab myself and connected the mouse and the wrist rest together, but as it’s extremely not even remotely comfortable I’m not bothering and I’ve already started the return process.
