De sierwaarde van de gele kornoelje is ongevenaard door zijn prachtige gele bloei in het voorjaar. De kleur is echt helder geel en komt prachtig uit op de dan nog kale takken. Het is ook echt een teken dat de lente dan komt, want de bloesem komt al in

Wat ook heel leuk is, is dat de gele kornoelje (Cornus mas) boom ook echt uit Nederland komt. De meeste bekende sierbomen komen namelijk uit Azië of Zuid-Amerika, maar deze is van Hollandse bodem. De sierwaarde van de gele kornoelje is ongeëvenaard door zijn prachtige gele bloei in het voorjaar. De kleur is echt helder geel en komt prachtig uit op de dan nog kale takken. Het is ook echt een teken dat de lente dan komt, want de bloesem komt al in februari! In de late lente komt het unieke groene hangende blad aan de boom met rode vruchtjes. Deze vruchten zijn niet eetbaar, maar het contrast tussen de groene bladeren en de rode vruchten is geweldig.

Vruchten, blad en bloesem

Zoals we hebben aangegeven heeft deze boom prachtig blad, heeft deze boom ook vruchten en draagt het in de lente bloesem. Het blad lijkt namelijk een beetje op een Pringle. Het is van binnen ingedeukt en heeft een ovale vorm. Maar ondanks het feit dat dit blad op een Pringle lijkt, is deze, net zoals de vrucht van deze boom, niet eetbaar. Een mooi bruggetje naar de vrucht van de gele kornoelje dacht ik zo. Deze boom krijgt namelijk aan het einde van de lente ook besjes. Maar deze besjes zijn giftig, dus eet ze niet. Tenslotte is er natuurlijk ook nog de gele bloesem in het vroege voorjaar. De kornoelje struik is ook een goede optie, deze vertakt met meerdere stammen vanuit de grond.

Gele kornoelje vogelboom

De besjes van de kornoelje zijn kleine, helderrode tot oranje vruchten. Deze besjes zijn geliefd bij vogels, die ze graag eten, vooral in de herfst en winter. Ze voorzien vogels van voedsel en dragen bij aan de biodiversiteit door het aantrekken van verschillende vogelsoorten naar tuinen en natuurgebieden.
