De gameplay van Dixit Odyssey komt overeen met die van Dixit: Elke beurt is één speler de verteller. Deze speler kiest in het geheim een kaart uit zijn hand en geeft vervolgens een woord of zin om deze kaart te beschrijven - maar niet te duidelijk. Elke andere speler kiest een kaart uit zijn hand die overeenkomt met dit woord of deze zin en geeft die aan de verteller. De verteller legt dan de kaarten neer en alle andere spelers stemmen over welke kaart bij de verteller hoort. Als niemand of iedereen de kaart van de verteller raadt, krijgt de verteller geen punten en krijgen alle spelers er twee; anders krijgen de verteller en de juiste raadgever(s) elk drie punten. De spelers krijgen één punt voor elke stem die hun afbeelding krijgt. De spelers vullen hun handen bij en de volgende speler wordt de verteller. Als de stapel op is, wint de speler met de meeste punten.
