Een ideale manier voor kinderen, maar ook volwassenen, om kennis te maken met de wereld van modelbouw! Het bouwen van de Airfix Apache is laagdrempelig door de combinatie tussen Lego-achtige bouwsteentjes en voorbewerkte modelbouw onderdelen.

Wist je dat?

De Apache-gevechtshelikopter is een veelzijdig toestel dat gebruikt kan worden voor diverse taken. Oorspronkelijk is de Apache (AH-64) ontworpen voor het bestrijden van tanks en andere (gepantserde) gronddoelen door de fabrikant Boeing Defense & Space Group.

Andere taken van de Apache zijn onder meer het verlenen van close air support aan grondtroepen en transporthelikopters in missiegebieden, het uitvoeren van verkenningen, escorteren van konvooien en het bewaken en afschermen van gebieden.

Wapens
Hiervoor heeft de gevechtshelikopter een geavanceerd sensor- en wapenpakket, zoals doelzoek- en nachtzichtapparatuur, infraroodafweersysteem, radardetectiesysteem en een global positioning system (gps) voor slecht weer mogelijkheden. Met de Hellfire-antitankraketten (max. 4x4), Hydra 70- raketten (max. 4x19) en een 30mm- boordkanon (max. 1200 schoten) is het toestel tot de tanden toe bewapend.

Nederland
Nederland beschikt anno 2020 nog over 28 Apache-gevechtshelikopters (AH-64D). Door het verlies van de helikopters met registratienummers Q-15 en Q-20 waren er twee verloren gegaan. Alle Nederlandse Apaches ondergaan de komende jaren het Remanufactre-programma, waarbij de heli's worden gemoderniseerd tot de Apache Echo (AH-64E). Hiermee moeten de Apaches tot 2050 operationeel inzetbaar blijven.
