Can Sumoi Xarel-lo is vernoemd naar de boerderij Can Sumio. Al sinds 1645 is deze boerderij in handen van de familie Mateu. Vroeger stond deze boerderij bekend als het toonbeeld van de landbouw. Echter werd er de laatste decennia weinig aan gedaan. Een van de laatste familieleden, Josep Mateu, is inmiddels diep in de tachtig, maar werd in 1936 op deze boerderij geboren. In zijn jeugd floreerde Can Sumoi, maar toen hij volwassen werd verloederde de boel. Gelukkig kwam daar verandering in toen Raventos om de hoek kwam. Het imposante wijnhuis Raventos, vooral bekend vanwege haar sublieme cava wijnen, kocht een tijdje geleden de boerderij. Josep Mateu zag dat de eens verloederde boerderij weer tot leven kwam. De boerderij Can Sumoi ligt op een landgoed wat maar liefst 400 hectare omvat! Echter wordt het grootste gedeelte ingenomen door bossen. ‘Slechts’ 20 hectare is bestemd voor de wijnbouw. Hier heeft Raventos gekozen voor rassen waarin zij goed in zijn, zoals de Xarel-lo. Dit druivenras maakte vooral furore dankzij de cava, maar in Can Sumoi Xarel-lo bewijst zij dat zij individueel in een stille wijn ook goed tot haar recht komt. Er is gekozen om de zuiverheid van de Xarel-lo te laten gelden in Can Sumoi Xarel-lo: dus gen tussenkomst. Gewoon een goede vergisting met de allerbeste druiven die Raventos tot haar beschikking kon hebben. Het resultaat mag er wezen. Denk aan sprankelende aroma’s van mediterrane kruiden, zachte anijs, wit fruit en is van jasmijn in bloei. Toch is Can Sumoi Xarel-lo opvallend fris in de mond. These plates are very convenient for busy days and parties, hold up well with regular meals.

I grabbed these for the upcoming summer because we have so many events coming up: graduation party, kids sleepovers, family gatherings and honestly even for those lazy evenings when I am just too tired to deal with dishes. I am actually very happy with them because they hold up much better than many disposable plates I've tried before. The plates feel sturdy enough for regular meals and snacks without immediately bending or getting soggy. One thing I appreciate is that they were even reusable for lighter drier snacks like nuts, crackers or cookies. If the food wasn't greasy or wet, we could easily use the plate a second time which actually helped reduce waste during busy gatherings because i noticed people going around and reusing for multiple foods. My son use them to do a quick warm up in the microwave for a slice of pizza but was only for 30 seconds and it seemed fine so i can say they are microwave safe but for shorter cycle. I love the white background with blue trim details. These are really practical plates to keep stocked up at home considering the great bulk value of 140 plates, very convenient, sturdy and a huge help when you want easier cleanup without constantly washing dishes. Lifesaver!

Close, but not quite as strong

These plates are very similar to the name brand that they look like. However the paper is slightly thinner, so for many things these act similarly, but for heavier things I found them to need more support from my hand because they flex a bit more. If I was using them for a party with heavy food I would definitely use paper plate holders with them. They seem to have the same coating to make them soak proof and that is a plus when I use them for food that's more moist or greasy. I find them fine for everyday use and the design is pleasant enough to look at. I will definitely check the pricing before buying to make sure it compares favorably given the slightly lesser strength.
