Pickering Perfection PLZ Pre Preamp - MC step-up transformer The Pickering PLZ is a vintage British-made MC step-up transformer—not a full phono stage. It connects to your existing MM phono input and allows the use of low-output MC cartridges by providing around 27 dB gain, a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 85 dB, and a frequency response spanning 5 Hz to 150 kHz. The unit is enclosed in a fully shielded all-metal housing with dual gold-plated phono connectors and uses high-precision discrete components (no integrated circuits). It’s powered by 2 × AA batteries and features a common earth design. Originally designed to pair with Pickering XLZ cartridges or Stanton equivalents, it's valued for delivering clean, noise-free amplification for MC setups
