Flagtail Panda Cory (Corydoras oiapoquensis)Overview
The Flagtail Panda Cory is an attractive and increasingly popular Corydoras species, easily recognized by its bold black mask, dark dorsal blotch, and distinctive tail-band “flag” pattern. Peaceful, active, and social, it makes a wonderful addition to planted and community aquariums.
OriginNative to the Oiapoque River Basin along the border of Brazil and French Guiana. Found in soft, slow-moving waters with sandy bottoms and dense vegetation.
FeedingAn easy, omnivorous feeder:
- Sinking micro-pellets and wafers
- Frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp
- Occasional live foods for conditioning
Note: Provide sinking foods, as Corydoras rarely feed at the surface.
Great for peaceful community aquariums, suitable with:
- Small tetras and rasboras
- Peaceful dwarf cichlids
- Guppies, platies, and mollies
- Other Corydoras
- Small loaches
Avoid: Large or aggressive species that may bully or outcompete them for food.
AggressionVery low. Corydoras are gentle schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 6+ to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress.
Experience LevelBeginner to Intermediate. Hardy and adaptable but benefits from clean water and a soft sandy substrate to protect sensitive barbels.
Water Parameters- Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
- pH: 6.0–7.4
- Hardness: 2–12 dGH
- Notes: Provide gentle flow, fine sand, hiding spots, and plenty of oxygenation.
