A beautifully crafted Staunton chess set with sheesham and boxwood pieces on a walnut board - classic styling, flawless finish, and built to last.
This fine chess set combines our excellent Down head Staunton chess pieces and our deluxe walnut board. The chess pieces have been expertly turned from graded boxwood and sheesham wood (variety of rosewood), are weighted and felted and have very good balance considering their size and base diameter. The level of detail and the quality of the finish are without flaw, the edges are crisp, the curves even, and the uniformity of the pieces is excellent. The boxwood and sheesham are both extremely hard woods and lend themselves extremely well to the natural polished finish.
The chessmen sit beautifully on our walnut and maple deluxe chessboard, a veneer board that has been manufactured by the world-renowned Rechapados Ferrer to exacting standards. The board is consistent and without flaws. It has a uniform satin finish that will withstand many years of use. The tones of the walnut are a perfect match for the sheesham chessmen and make this set highly attractive and stylish while retaining its traditional Staunton roots. A lovely product made from natural materials that has been built to last decades, not years.
